Interior Quality Details?

I have watched every video I can consume lol! However, I’m not hearing much about interior quality/feel. Somebody had mentioned the rollup windows were a “solid quality feel” but I’m not hearing about other aspects such as:

• How does the door sound/feel when it closes?
• How does the door handle feel when you open it? Interior door handle?
• Is the frunk a slam it closed situation like the Mach-E (assume no soft close)?
• Carpet and headliner feel?
• Will the headliner officially be black? 🙏🏼❤
• Any texture to the interior panels and materials?
• Are the door armrests and center console hard plastic or is there any softness to it?
• How does the steering wheel button feel? Clicks? Solid detents?
• Horn sound?
• Will it beep in reverse?

Call me weird but I just love some more of these details as I’m now curious about the tactile feel and sounds.
Bringing me back to when the MINI first came out back in 2002, and we were all clamoring for these details! 🙌🏼🤤

It is a lot to consume. A few of the videos slammed the door and said it seemed solid. From 2000 miles away, it sounds solid to me. There were comments about the plastic feel inside. The general consensus is it is not luxurious. Autopian (I think) called the steering wheel very plastic and not very desirable in feel. Most reviewers like the feel of the seats.

As I write this, this new video that popped on another thread closed the door and had comments on the headliner and carpet. He also hits the horn. Give this one a view:

Well since we have and nobody else has actually seen or been in a fully production ready version of the truck yet, most impressions could change in the next 6 months. That being said as a disclaimer, a $25k truck will have compromises over a $40k or 50k truck, so set your expectations accordingly. My expectations are it will be better than what most people are used to for a base model Economy vehicle.
I know this does not answer your concerns, but the reality is any judgement of quality right now is premature.

Since Regular Car Reviews made a show of a terrible door hinge creak when he got to touch it last year, it seems like quality has been improving steadily with the pre-production models. A lot of things that will matter for interior feel have changed, including mechanical details like the seat rails.

There's only one correct answer for most of these questions: Too early to say, but there's reason to be optimistic.

I've mentioned elsewhere for fit and finish, Slate's modular focus means they have to expect parts will be fitted to vehicles they weren't assembled with at the production line, which means being extra picky about manufacturing tolerances and how things fit together.

They're fighting the age-old manufacturing problem of "interchangeable parts" head-on. Should help that they're partnered with a manufacturing consulting firm called Re:Build, as a matter of their origins. Their portfolio includes an advanced plastics company that helped with the exterior panels and bed, so that means they have access to experts for good interior plastics, if they prioritize it.

Though, on things like carpets, seats, the steering wheel...while I'm sure Slate wants them to be "good", the best experience might be covering them up. The seats are zip-on covers from the start, steering wheel covers are a common car mod, and there are better floor liners/mats in the official accessories. I know a custom-fit rubber floor liner is one of the best investments I've made in my own car.

The following is from my experience sitting and riding in Slates most representative prototype to the final production vehicle. But they are still fine tuning some things:
1. Solid
2. Natural despite its slightly unorthodox position.
3. didn’t get a chance to close the frunk. Tailgate felt old school and solid in the best way.
4. Looked good but didn’t feel it, don’t normally feel my headliners and carpet so didn’t think to.
5. That’s a question for a Slate Agent
6. Everything had an economical quality feel to it. The arm rests texture is in its last stages of finalizations. But all the interior textures felt good. Key fob is smaller than it looks in picture and there is a satisfying click when inserting it. The dash panels had great tactile feed back pushing on them to open. Climate controls were clicky from what I remember. Steering wheel controls felt very smooth and nice to the touch. One video said the air vent controls felt flimsy but I personally didn’t mess with them so I can’t verify if that’s true or not.
7. Kind of addressed it in the prior comment but armrests aren’t finalized yet they still need to add a gradient to it (think that was the term they used). But since I had the same concerns you did it feels solid but it’s smooth and nice to the touch not rough. It doesn’t feel cheep like an early 2000s GM interior. Know that well from my first vehicle being an early 2000s Chevy Silverado.
8. Addressed this already could be a bit more clicky but not bad it feels like an Xbox D-Pad instead of a Nintendo D-Pad from what I remember. That’s the best description I can give.
9. Didn’t hear it in person but it’s definitely not intimidating from videos I’ve seen but it gets the job done.
10. Do other EVs beep in reverse or do they just have that mandated low speed sound.

Having rode in it the wind noise was noticeable but not distracting not deafening as one reviewer put it. I was able to hold a conversation very easily. Once concerned I had was squeaks and rattles since the back panel is removable and being a hybrid body on frame derived vehicle. But nothing even when punching it or driving on rough road. It’s very solidly built.

You are not weird for asking any of the above questions since I share your concerns. I was fortunate to sit in a production intent Slate and wanted to comment on a few items. For the plastic surfaces there is a nice grain to the texture, but it feels solid and the gage is decent (better than expected). Couldn’t get it to flex much. I recall sitting in some Honda’s where the door cards were paper thin and could flex quite a bit (knee test). Also, the window cranks were a nice surprise as the round knob (the part you touch) has a soft padded feel to it. And the carpet lining in the rear SUV option is rather surprisingly thick. I commented to Slate that it’s better than I experienced in some Lexus models. The doors close with a solid thunk, the ride is smooth, quiet, and feels quick on acceleration. I didn’t hear any squeaks, rattles, or wind noise on my test drive. And I consider myself a tough grader.

It’s apparent to me that Slate is trying to build a solid little pickup at an attractive price that doesn’t feel cheap. You won’t be disappointed.
