For Slate U they will need production specs, body diagrams, cut away views, electrical specs and circuit diagrams. So, will they start production before Slate U is finished? A lot of my decisions will rest with how DIY it is after seeing Slate U. But, will Slate delay selling production until Slate U is ready? Or will we be able to get our Truck now and wait for the extra bits and Slate U to catch up?

I am trying to keep my expectations low for June price reveal.

I wish our High Schools still offered auto shop. Back in the day that was a great way to do these projects.

I'd assume they would launch ar the sane time since they would already have that stuff while doing production its just turning it into a tutorial format similar to a dumbed down shop manual

I would think they already have a site template for Slate U setup in a wiki-like organization framework. Once a final production model is completed. Then they will start adding various section starting with initial vehicle setup and initial maintenance operations. Then various processes for customization. And then repairs for various components and systems.

I wonder if Slate U will only be available to people who have actually purchased one? They may give everyone a brief teaser, like a sales catalog, but if you buy a Slate, you can see the full owners manual and all specifications.

I think the development of Slate University is somehow hinged to the recently announced partnership with Tweddle Group. They are a well-established firm producing owner and tech repair manuals and also a key supplier to Toyota. It's reassuring to see that Slate Auto is outsourcing its tech pubs to industry leaders rather than trying to keep that operation in-house.

Totally speculating here, but I think Slate U will be available at no cost to owners and the Repair Pal network centers. I suspect it will also be available to non-owners to enhance the DIY appeal of aftermarket suppliers.

At some point, Slate might consider a paid subscription service for high-level factory technical service manuals, not available to the general public. These manuals contain a great deal of intellectual property (IP) which contains proprietary data. For example, I've seen these available from other OEMs as a download for a 24-hour period, one-month, or unlimited subscription plan.

Wouldn’t surprise me that Slate U be available a multiple levels, free and paid. I say that as for tractors I have owned, the higher level, Service Manuals usually are extra.

They did say we would be able to do our own warrantee work, I'm not paying extra to get the info to do that. That being said I'm sure not all warrantee work would be this way, there's just some things you don't leave to anyone with a tool set.

That seems extremely likely. I'm glad they're outsourcing stuff outside their core areas of expertise, but I hope they can avoid taking too much direction from Tweddle's other customers regarding consumer accessibility.

Slate U should be fully open, not locked down behind high-cost subscriptions!
