So it seems the automotive outlets have caught wind of the starting price of the new Nissan Leaf. With a starting price of just under $32k, the smallest capacity battery is supposedly going to be rated for around 206 miles. This would be somewhat close to the extended range battery on the Slate, but with all the creature comforts already installed. While the Leaf doesn't have a bed, it makes another compelling option for someone looking for an EV as their main car.

Just what "creature comforts"?
Infotainment, paint? don't care about those, in fact the infotainment is kind of a liability, gets out of date and expensive to replace if it stops working.

Looks very competitive, though it doesn’t get a heat pump or battery heaters in the lower trim levels. Does get wirelesmcarplay/aa, safety features and 360 cameras though. The Leaf, Bolt and Hyundai/kia EVs will all compete in the low cost ev segment along with the Slate.

For me personally it's not competition, I'm looking for a pickup truck the SUV Kit option is just a fun bonus that I might get in the future.

All of these will drag the price down a bit, though, and really push the envelope on better battery tech. Slate had better keep their pencil sharp to make margin. Last time I checked, Jeff & co don't like to invest in losers.

It has already been mentioned in other threads and other media, Slate's aftermarket options might be where the true profit margins materialize. All of these other car companies do not have anything close to what Slate Auto has planned. I am also skeptical that these other small truck and economy EVs will be delivered at the prices and dates they are claiming. So, they will need to keep their pencils sharp as well.
