I am 63 and greatly prefer tablet size screen for nav, pandora etc. I have an old ipad that would fit perfectly in the tablet holder but it is not cellular . Another option would be the carplay screen mentioned in a different thread.

One option if you have a non-cellular tablet would be a separate hotspot. You can get prepaid versions as well.

For some, a tablet sim card sharing the data already on the phone plan costs nothing extra monthly.
Wait... That's a thing?

There is a Technology to project your phone onto a table via WiFi/bluetooth.

It is referred to as Casting. The iPhone IOS has it loaded from the factory. You may have to add the app on your tablet.

The one drawback that it has is that the app is ad based so periodically a commercial will interrupt whatever your viewing.

Not sure that is going to work for me.

I have two suggestions.
-get a portable touch monitor and mount that on the dash. You just plug your phone into it when you get in.
-if you go with a wifi hotspot, you can just an NFC chip that when you set your phone on it, it can set your phone to do a series of actions, one of which you can have it automatically turn on hotspot.

For one option, fi.google.com has it available on their highest plan, at $65/month for one line, unlimited calls and data, and 50GB tethered data, and coverage in 110 countries, and also their lowest plan, $20 per month, plus $10 per GB of data used(actually breaks down to 1 cent per MB, they don't round up and charge for a full GB). With either, you can request them send you a free data only SIM.

Problem is the WiFi iPad doesn’t have GPS, so you can’t use Google or Apple Maps even if it has internet through mobile hotspot.
