If they use Blurtooth 5.x, they could get nearly 300M of range in ideal situations and that standard has been around since 2016. While I've not been at that range I have had times were ive been 300 feet from my phone and still had Bluetooth connection, but I also had direct line of sight to the phone as well.

Maybe those apps can get battery data from the OBD port. There are devices that do, via a splitter.

I'm pretty sure they will have the data available through the USB port.

I was responding to @E90400K 's suggestion that remote tracking for fleet operators sounds like an opportunity for a 3rd-party application.

Edit: Upon reflection my intent wasn't obvious. Just trying to emphasize that Slate doesn't need to do anything to enable fleet operator tracking.
