It’s likely because the Slate App is designed around a 9x16 aspect ratio. Also most phone mounts are optimized for vertical orientation. We don’t know yet if you can change it to horizontal but I do think the best configuration will be vertically.Does anyone know if you could place one's cellphone horizontally in the smartphone holder? And not have fingers blocking the screen?
All the pictures I see show a vertical phone.

Having the mounting rail already in place will make it trivial for anyone to make any kind of mount they want to sell that will mount securely. I got a wireless backup camera for my car, the issue is where to mount the screen, suction cup to the glass isn't a good idea, it has a flat plate to stick on, but the dash is all curves.....because there will not be any third party cell phone holders developed for every phone or tablet ever made. Because no one makes cell phone holders for cars. Just like there are no Lego knock off companies. Or companies that just make oodles of car accessories, but dont make cars themselves.
Seriously people, are you looking for ridiculous problems to dream up??
(Poking fun here, but also scratching my head at where some of these questions come from.)
