T-TOPS!

If I choose to take the top off the Fastback SUV for the open-air, I want to keep the safety bar over my head, but I want to have the wind in my hair. I always used to take the tops off of my jeeps in the past. I loved it.

Decal packages.. I’m not a fan of wraps, but some nice running board decals and/or bed height broad ‘stripes’ would be nice.
Also, Logo delete packages. ‘Slate’ is nice, but they missed the mark graphically with its relationship to the vehicle, IMO.

This is one thing I don't like about the tailgate. I believe (not confirmed) that the tailgate has SLATE across the back in the panel itself. I like to de-badge all of my vehicles. If the tailgate panel has the SLATE branding pressed into the panel (and not adhered as an emblem), then I won't be able to change it without significant customization.

I already plan to change the front grill with a 3d Print.

Every couple years,change the body lines but be able to bolt them to an older model... update the look of your Slate. Sell the body panels as a package. Old panels could go to fix crashed ones, would probably have good resale.

I'm also hoping there will be a bunch of aftermarket stuff. As easy as it is to take off the body panels, this should be doable, but you're probably talking either injection or vacuforming... I'd expect these panels to be a bit big for 3d printing.

One, all the images I've seen, show a blank tailgate.
Two, if one is not true, the exterior is polypropylene (PP) composite. I think I read somewhere, it's talc infused. But if you have a 3d printer, you could print small patch plates of the same base material and heat weld them into the recess. Then sand smooth and cover with vinyl.

When I first got excited about it, I looked into what I would need to 3Dprint body banels for it. A printer setup to handle that would be like 2 to 3 Slates.

Makes me wonder if there is any wiring already setup in the mirror stalks or if they just made it accessible for future upgrades like the power mirrors, blinkers or blind spot sensors to be easily DIY or 3rd party.

I thought about the wiring harness too.
That will be a big limitation on adding whatever the heck you can think of.
They seem to have a really bright team so I have some confidence they thought of this in one form or another. I hope they have addressed it somehow.
If not, then hopefully with Gen 2.
We (the DIY community) are going to extra-beta test the hell out of Gen 1 when we get it.

Slate has only casually mentioned something called SAPs, or Slate Access Points. These are pre-defined mounting and wiring points for accessories. Somewhere along the line they said they'll be publishing a lot of details about these, especially for those who want to make stuff from CAD.

They have an engineering position they are trying to fill specifically to handle SAPs. I doubt they'll publish anything until the design is final.

Documentation, specs, drawings - something like a Slate bible that someone can use to tinker or create with the Slate as the base. I'm envisioning a Slate as the automotive equivalent of an Arduino, so anything that unlocks its secrets will be helpful and appreciated.
