In the Rich Rebuilds video Eric Keipper answered the AWD question with “The entire organization, the entire company is focused on getting the truck and the accessory of the SUV in a rear wheel drive, you know, standard and extended range, situation in in those configurations to launch”.

After that he said the Design Team is working on "a Slate portfolio of vehicles with additional features that may or may not fit underneath the frunk".

The OG Truck's Slateboard chassis is designed for AWD that will appear in future offerings.
Yeah, that's where my thinking is. Though the current focus is the current vehicle, they may have designed the core chassis from the beginning, long before they announced the truck in April, to not need any changes to build a variety of future models.

In any startup, the sole focus of most people in the organization is to ship something, anything. Decades ago I attended a lecture by one of the founders of Apple. He gave us several mantras he lived by. One was "Ship, baby, ship!". His point was to get product out so you are generating cash flow, or else you die.

I also loved his second mantra, which was "Churn, baby, churn!". His point was to keep dangling shiny baubles in the faces of a buying public with more money than sense.

Given where Apple is today, I guess his mantras served him well. And I'm guessing right now the mantra at Slate is "Ship, baby, ship!".
