’m a Technology Engineering and Design educator in rural North Carolina, and I wanted to share something I’m really excited about. This upcoming school year (starting in August), I plan to use Slate Auto and the Slate Truck as a case study in my Technology Engineering & Design courses. We’ll be exploring the engineering behind minimalist vehicle design, materials choices (like the composite body), battery technology, and the manufacturing approach that keeps the truck affordable and practical.
My students live in a rural area where traditional trucks are part of everyday life—and where EV skepticism is still common. I think Slate’s design philosophy offers a perfect real-world example of practical innovation that bridges both worlds: tough, affordable, and simple, but with forward-looking technology.
I’ve already been in touch with Slate and hope to build a deeper partnership over time, but in the meantime, I wanted to connect here and share the idea. If anyone else has thoughts, suggestions, or would be interested in following along as we build this into a classroom project, I’d love to hear from you!
Also—proud to say I have my Slate T-shirt already in hand 😄. Looking forward to being part of this community and seeing where things go!
