If you search autotrader, new nationwide, you can get a maverick xl for 23K
While I do agree with you and know that you can aquire a maverick for that. I also do not think it is fair to look at anything other than MSRP when comparing prices to the Slate before they have even announced their final specs/price. Deals on the Maverick are regional and heavily rely on a person's ability to navigate a dealership sales/finance departments to actually get the deal that is advertised.
No doubt that you could get a vehicle for less than what Slate is targeting, but you could also say that for every car that is on the market save for one. It comes down to other factors that are at play.

A huge reason that the Maverick is able to be acquired for less, is because of Ford's ability to value engineer. They are really good at that, for better or worse. Also the Maverick it is built in and sourced primarily from Mexico for much cheaper than it would be able to be produced in the USA like the Slate is promising.

I did the search didn't see the $23k new Maverick XL. Was curious what the fine print said. Was suspecting like before $999 processing fee and $7k cash or trade.

They are out there... I could only find MY2025 for $23k, but there are several MY2026 for $24k with what looks like a $2000 incentive (I didn't research what the qualifications are)

Looks like a decent deal to be honest!

The one in the middle is a hybrid, so I read the fine print on it. The advertised price excludes $199 electronic filing fee, $899 dealer doc fee and the $1995 advantage fee, whatever that is. Additionally, you must finance with Jarred Ford of Charlotte County. Suddenly mid-20s starts to look like 30.

It also includes $2500 in "trade equity/down payment", which pushes it even farther towards $30k... I hate Dealerships and their questionable tactics.
