While I do agree with you and know that you can aquire a maverick for that. I also do not think it is fair to look at anything other than MSRP when comparing prices to the Slate before they have even announced their final specs/price. Deals on the Maverick are regional and heavily rely on a person's ability to navigate a dealership sales/finance departments to actually get the deal that is advertised.If you search autotrader, new nationwide, you can get a maverick xl for 23K
No doubt that you could get a vehicle for less than what Slate is targeting, but you could also say that for every car that is on the market save for one. It comes down to other factors that are at play.
A huge reason that the Maverick is able to be acquired for less, is because of Ford's ability to value engineer. They are really good at that, for better or worse. Also the Maverick it is built in and sourced primarily from Mexico for much cheaper than it would be able to be produced in the USA like the Slate is promising.
