What are your personal MUST HAVE Add-Ons/Accessories for your Slate?

Although many folks seem to like the factory steelies, including myself, I think a wheel upgrade and 20” tires is a personal must have for a more rugged look.

Every time I see them, I can’t help be reminded of ‘space saver spare tires.’ Just a full sized version. lol.

I think those are the way they are so they'll be decal-ready.

I'd prefer some holes for ventilation.

Ventilation for brakes is a thing, but if it's mostly using regenerative braking, I don't think that will be an issue. Larger more rugged looking tires will mean more rolling friction and less range. Actually the smooth steel wheels may also be to minimize wind resistance too.

Good point about Wind Resistance. I didn't think of that!

Combined with non-use of the brakes because of regen-braking, that makes those hole-less wheels look a hole not better.

Compared to what I'm driving now, the blank Slate is positively luxurious. Aircon, back up cam, heater with no weird smells, intermittent wipers, any thing else is just a bonus. I like the bench seat, but I really do slide around a bit. No must haves' just bring it and lemme drive it!

Well the main thing that appeals to me is the simplicity. But it is ripe for personalization.​

I need music and speakers for sure. Maybe just do it through an iPad/carplay. But I’m also liking that retro 90’s stereo that Panasonic is coming out with. so I hope there’s a single din mount available.​

I’m also thinking about running a window less cargo top for a sedan delivery look so I’m gonna need a convex mirror on the past side. or maybe I’ll run side view cameras..​

while I love steelies. Wheels will probably be the first change I make. We’ll see how low the factory lowering ends up being.​

Unless there's a meaningful cost savings to buy accessories upfront, I'd really like to try rocking a blank Slate for as long as possible and let it grow/change as true needs develop.

That said, my gut says speaker(s) will be top of the list.

Assuming it's very cheap will you be getting at min the bluetooth speaker mount instead of the premium speaker options? Personally I'm going to try it out since it's something very unique to this truck and still fits with the Kei Truck style Minimalism that the Blank Slate has going for it.

That lines up with how I'd like to do it, provided the power supply to the speaker doesn't look too unwieldy

From the factory I'm looking at the lift kit, bigger battery, and fog lights are the only things I'm going to add to make it useful in Texas.

Aftermarket I'm thinking a standard iPad with mobile data and a slim toolbox/maybe Decked will make their flat toolbox for the Slate. I think later on down the road the roof rack, SUV kit, running boards, and spare tire will get added.

I've listed my want for a power dimming rear-view mirror before, but here's an actual example of what I'm going to do:

This is a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder at the Pick-n-Pull, and the Gentex 4 series mirror I pulled from it on Friday. I'm replacing my Element's standard manual mirror with it.

Simply power it with a fuse tap to come on with accessory and route the ambient temp sensor to the front of the vehicle (at least with an EV I won't have to worry about radiant engine heat) and it's simple-as-that. There's a 3D printed mirror mount adapter to mount it to the Element's proprietary roof mount, but if it was a standard windshield button it'd go right on.

Nissan put a version with home-link in Armadas but those have orange LCDs (and I couldn't find a two line one). Not a bad upgrade for $30 plus the $14 mount. I'll be curious to see a Slate in person and see what that mirror is mounted to.

I'm sure you all know what Slate comes with standard. You've seen various options and accessories that can be added. What are the things you could not live without and would add immediately?

Me: Heated Seats (not Cooled), Bluetooth Dual-Speakers, Fastback (would not install the Seats, just use it as a Cap), that's all.

I’ll get a few bits and accent pieces upon receipt of my Slate, but the only option that I need and haven’t seen mentioned anywhere is a sliding rear window. That was the only upgrade I got for my base model Tacoma 10 years ago. (Has crank windows and manual transmission.) it adds a couple of extra feet to the payload length so I can haul 10 - 12 ft lumber/pipes without adding a rack or tying things at weird angles. I probably use it about once a week for hauling work supplies. Just have to tie things down good so they don’t fly through the windshield when I have to slam on the brakes. Unless there is some way of easily flipping up the rear window at the apparent hinge points, (which I learned wasn’t really feasible until it’s in SUV configuration), I’ll have to find some aftermarket option.

From what people have reported when they asked about the rear window, what's on the prototypes is far from final, I don't know if it's still being engineered, or just hasn't made it to touring prototypes, but there is supposed to be a planned way to hold the window open. It's even possible that removal might be easy enough that you could take it out and stow it behind the seats to put lumber in like that.
A few months ago, while carpooling, we saw one of those big short bed trucks with some probably 2x12s in the bed, sticking out over tailgate, visibly shifting. They got on the same onramp as us, and took off ahead of us, and sure enough a few miles down they were pulled over to the shoulder, with no boards in the back.
With the about 7 miles I'd be transporting lumber, I'd probably leave it flat, with the gate down, and well tied down, unless I go for the roof rack, then I'd angle it up to that and again, tie it down well.

I'm going to be very tempted to buy an optionless version and use it for a while before determining what I might need. Fog lights will be pretty interesting because we get a lot of fog here, and I could definitely be interested in power windows (please put the switches in the middle so both can be controlled from any seat!). Power mirrors would be great if they also retract since I live on a narrow street. I'd probably want all-weather floor mats, but experience tells me that Husky, or even Weathertech, are usually much better than manufacturer offerings.

I don't need a radio or any electronics other than a phone mount for those few times I use a GPS.

As I understand it, the main attraction of Slate's approach is that I can add what I want when I want it, so I have no motive to option at purchase. Of course, if it turns out there are serious savings I might shift my position on that.

I'd love to see an option with marine vinyl upholstery rather than cloth--I've always hated cloth seats no matter what climate I lived in. For decades we've always had leather seats, but I don't expect that in a cheap pickup truck. I've also had very good luck with Katzkin aftermarket leather seats.

I'll be a sucker for seat heaters as well.

Of course, I don't need any of this at the beginning.

We have ordered (and waited for) many new cars over the years. That's kind of the point of a new car. If I can't get exactly what I want, I just buy used instead.

It's a rough render but Slate has shown an accessory switch set that goes in the middle of the truck, above the HVAC controls. So your fog light switches would be right in the center!
