All of the many cameras on my Tesla record constantly. Also the car is not a "most" regarding when rear camera can be viewed. I can turn on rear camera at any time. My most common use is when pulling forward into a garage with a door to make sure I am far enough forward that the trunk swing can't contact the closed door. But I also use it in other circumstances.
I had a Honda HRV loaner that had a blindspot camera on the right mirror that you could turn on at any time, I really liked that ability. Made curbside parking a dream, especially since it was a loaner.

Yes I have heard that about Teslas. I should have specified that my experience is only with gas cars, older, entry-level or mid-trim. The newest I own is 2017. 😁
