No. Look at how much trouble Tesla got in from the NHTSA for allowing people to customize the sound.

The EV low speed noises I've heard have been relatively low and unobtrusive. If you are paying attention, you can tell it's an EV by hearing it, but most are somewhere from a slightly higher pitched engine or fan noise to the "jetsons flying car sound", but you can tell they aren't just a real fan noise.

Some EVs make their low speed sound using the electric motor and controller. I don't know if the Slate will do this as the motor is in the back. Basically, some "ugly" frequency chopping at very low power levels can turn into noise from the motor windings. Different versions of wave dropping can create whistles, hums, or growls from the motor.

I hope it's not annoying and not any louder than it has to be. I find a lot of the BEV/hybrid low-speed sounds grating, and louder than most new ICE vehicles. I'd be happy if it just sounded like normal tire noise, just loud enough to meet the requirement.

I drove a '65 Beetle in the late '90's. As (at the time) I wasn't going for an authentic rebuild (I dropped a bored-out super-beetle 1642 in there and beat most sport cars off the line ;-) ), I wired up a foghorn and drove it like that until I sold it.

Was fun. Not sure people around me thought so...
