Boy, it's been very hard to hold out on a Slate as I've been eyeing a Jeep Gladiator as of late. Here's hoping the test drives turn out to be great! :fingerscrossed:
I put in my reservation because I see the writing on the wall for my Jeep. After 108k miles the 3.6 Pentastar crapped out on me last month. I'm putting in a brand new engine but who knows how long it will last. Stellantis/Jeep has the worst quality control and least reliable vehicles.

Oh yikes! That's very good to know then. I'm nowhere near that kind of mileage on mine right now but I think I'm already outgrowing the size of the 2-door.

I don't want to take over too much of the Slate forum thread but if you head over to the JLwranglerforums you can read up about all of the issues with the 3.6.

I wish the Slate was coming out sooner. It's going to be a long wait.

Agreed. I'm chomping at the bit here for next year.

Completely agree! But after the long wait is over, let’s hope this forum doesn’t end up like a lot of other forums. They tend to be dominated with complaints. Certainly there will be issues on a totally new design. I just hope they are relatively minor in nature.

Sometimes complaints can be good. When people post about an issue there's always someone who has had that issue and can help solve problems. I've saved a lot of time/money thanks to these type of forums.

I’m betting they will have available around the country next year and we will get a chance to examine them up close.
You already own a fine electric truck. I'm concerned with quality with a new company like this. Like with the scout I remember back when they were still being made but there were problems. That coupled with the lack of good options for driving in the rough killed them and now when they think everyone has forgotten they plan on getting back in the business.
My last jeep that was killed by a girl on a cell phone was an excellent little car a rene trailhawk, mostly Italian except for the drive train which was USA. I was thinking of another jeep but maybe not after hearing comments here.

I am super satisfied with my Lightning and will be holding on to it for some time to come. The Slate will be my run about/off grid camping machine. (No rock climbing be considered.) Just primitive camping sites.

I spent just under 80k on a first generation Ford EV truck so what’s 20K on the Slate. 🤞

Thats a good idea. You can always throw a 50 amp 240vac gen in the back and go any distance in the back country with your Lightning. I'm with you like primitive back country camping. Thats why I've been seriously considering a Bronco but 17-20mpg which means maybe 4-6 off road kinda stops me. Off road sucks energy hence the need for the gen for electric. I love electric since i was involved in testing first gen electrics of the roads back in 98-2000. They are as superior ans gas cars are to bicycles.
Slate has a great idea lets see now it develops and not get our hopes to high.

My late mother always told to me to: “Live in Hope or Die in Despair.”

Now’s a good time to follow that advice.

One thing in Slate's favor will be the lack of gizmos to fail. Unless you want to add them. I've noticed on other EV forums that a lot of complaints center around all the crap loaded onto the software platforms that may not even be used by the driver but crap out and brick the vehicle with them. I'm hoping that being stripped down, the Slate can avoid most of the glitches and get off to a el grande start.

Yes, exactly on the spot.

Since the Slate will be a "stripped" base model out of the production line, it will be much less complaints compared to other makes/models due to the simplicity in design.

My current Ford EV has minor issues way too many to list:
  • Bose sound system distortion issues,
  • Auto locking failures,
  • Infotainment occasionally rebooting,
  • OTA update issues with wifi and cellular connectivity,
  • Bluetooth unlocking issues,
  • Key fob remote opening frunk & trunk failing,
  • Ford app issues not synchronizing, starting climate controls and open/close windows remotely,
  • Charge location vs % stopping errors,
  • 12V battery drain causing issues with updates,
  • Alarm system malfunctioning,
  • Blue Cruise level 2 FSD cameras turning off in the sun.....

The companies add other things that stop things from working untill you sibscrib to a recomended product or something. Just like your other electronic devices and computers.
