Slate Kei truck with dropdown sides to make a flatbed.
I love the small external toolbox in front of the wheel! Would be covered up by the drop-down side when hinged down, but that's easy enough to solve. And it provides a bit of a fender skirt a la GM EV1/first gen Honda Insight when folded down - though the aerodynamics of a flatbed are atrocious. Needs a matching box behind the wheel!

Opening rear window
I saw that in the video on Reddit:

The back glass hinged open like a truck topper, which makes great sense for the SUV. Needs gas struts as in your rendering or something, it didn't appear to have anything in frame holding it in place after he lifted it up (maybe someone standing out of frame holding the corner LOL?) but the ability to open/remove the back glass in SUV mode is critical, and it seems to logically extend to the same in pickup mode.

I'm not holding my breath for 4Runner/Sequoia style vertical sliding rear window that telescopes into the midgate/tailgate, but that would be sweet if it could be done!

My idea honestly is to leave the bed like this because that is going to be mostly used to move my motorcycle in style.
It appears you haven't seen pictures of the chassis without body panels.

In regards to the headline on Slate.Auto, THIS TRUCK CAN BE ANYTHING except for a flatbed

Last news I've found on that was they had delivered the first batch and it was getting positive reviews. Not sure what "the disaster" is meaning, besides you don't like the looks, or the delays.

Had a maverick hybrid. Sold to buy Slate
This is seriously the thread that keeps on giving. Nothing gives me more hope for the aftermarket than this. Stepside (ish) side panels, crazy grilles. Built in widebody panels. The only limit is our imagination.

I predict used slate pickups will be the ultimate art car base vehicle of the future.

Why are they a disaster? Every carrier I've met who had a chance to drive one absolutely loved those vehicles. They're not pretty, but they are absolutely designed for the job at hand.
