I insist…. The DIY and the basic model to customize… will create a lot of aftermarket manufacturers!!! Sure some bench seat will appear in the meantime.!!
Even two rear seat at the bed side by side . Like old Land Cruiser pickups.!!!
They will research the cost to produce, the cost to sell, and the liability of adding a non-restrained passenger and no air bag and their lawyers will say "pass on that."

A bench seat may make me keep the truck configuration rather than going suv. But if they are already doing saftey tests with out the bench I don't think it will happen.

That said the aftermarket may step in. For example:

https://corbeau.com/collections/bench-seats
Notice those are for vehicles that were available with a bench seat and DO NOT add a third passenger seating. In other words they are replacement seats which puts the liability on you for proper seat belts etc.
" The 42" Baja Bench comes standard with vertical tabs on the bottom for mounting to a roll cage. We do not recommend this seat be used in places where a seat was not intended by the original manufacture of the vehicle. "

I think it's saying don't mount it in the bed of a pick up. But If they started selling a frame that bolted to the oem seat mounting positions you could bolt that seat in.

True but YOU assume all liability for lack of proper seat belts. I think of it this way. If I would let my 3 year old grandchild ride in it unbuckled then it isn't safe. But if you buy one do what you want. That's the beauty of freedom of choice.

Not sure I get what you are saying, the post when I brought up that the aftermarket may make a bech seat I posted that company as an example. Obviously those are for some other application.

Make sure you make your grandchild wear a seat belt, I don't know any seat that I would sit in without one. Maybe that audi from i robot.

My point is that company sells a bench seat for 3 passengers but does NOT provide the seat belts to go with it. So unless Slate adds seat belts for anon-existent back seat or third front seat passenger there is no safety features. I work with a guy who made a Durango extended cab out of a standard cab. No rear belts! Just because it can be done does not mean it is a good idea.

If bench seats are regulated out, someone should inform Scout.

I just looked at Ford's website and you can still buy a regular cab with bench seat and seating for 3. No front or side airbag for middle seating position. They would have to add a seatbelt. Not sure whether is has to be a shoulder harness or whether lap belt is sufficient. This seems to be a popular voted up change. Hopefully, Slate monitors this forum and takes note.
