Speculation is fun.
There’s overlap for sure.
Just want a sub 180 inch 2 seat 2 door truck that can be converted to an SUV for a low price compared to the market.

Ut oh, reopening the Maverick can 'o worms...

Such a tough topic. I've been looking into replacing my midsize truck. I looked at and test drove the Maverick last week. It just seems like a wimpy truck compared to a body-on-frame architecture, and the bed is not very big. The rear seats of the Maverick are tight as I suspect the Slate rear seats will be despite the video of the 2 ladies and the endomorph man-bun. Really, it's just two smallish adults sized and will be a PITA for anyone over 40 years old to climb back there as an SUV conversion. The Maverick at least has rear doors for much easier access.

The Tacoma and Frontier are both available new in their 2025 model year as extended-cab 2-door trucks (really 4-door with small rear doors) with a very usable 6-foot bed. They are both priced at $33K before discounts. The Taco is 213 inches long and the Frontier at 210, just 3-feet longer than the Slate. If 3 feet makes that much of a difference, I'm not sure why. If either could be bought at $31K, that is a Slate Truck with the 84kWh battery price territory. And both the Taco and Frontier come with paint.

Frontier used to be a very reliable little truck. Not so sure anymore. 18" shouldn't make much difference in this size truck. At F150-ish territory, 18" means no longer fitting in garage, some parking places, etc.

They’ll have to revisit this comparison when the Ford (T1) specs come to lite in the near future. That will be an apple to apple 🍎 comparison.

A couple of interesting factoids are in there:

• The Extended Battery option adds 302 pounds.
• The FWD Maverick's 0-60mph time is 7.7 seconds

For those already looking for a 4 door 5 seat truck that’s EV, the Ford Universal EV Platform truck might be the way to go. Around the size of a Maverick, ~200 inches long, around town mileage, Ford mentioned not focused on towing.

Still want the Slate. Pricing might make it a need, barring similar potential options in the market.
