That's right. Card and Driver and Motor Trend as well as a slew of other sources have put the price at $27k to $27.5k before incentives and Slate has not corrected that to anything new.

Obviously for a PR release though they are going as low as they think could be possible. So everything ramps up perfect, inflation keeps to the lowest potential expected outcome, global supply situation is perfect...

And we see that with those projections, time and again (model 3, Lucid Air, Cybertruck, R1T/S), we get that price creep over a couple years till they actually come out a bit higher (15-20%) pretty consistently.

So sure, by 2027 I doubt even the base will be $30k, but probably will hit close to that, making it right in there as the lowest cost truck. The question is how will it compete with the capability/convenience/features of that competition.

When Slate is ready to publish pricing, they will. Until then, we are all free to assume whatever we want. The automotive press certainly has.

Yes. Like I said, respectable publications have stated the price. Slate has given a price that barring them being absolute idiots at PR is going to be the best they can give. Thus the $27.5k expectation that no one is contradicting as the hope today where if in a perfect world 2027 comes along and everything is turning up Slate, that price could be seen.

Respectable publications are SPECULATING on the price. They don't know it anymore than you or I or even Slate's CEO at this point in time. But go ahead, send them an email and see what they say. I can almost guarantee that the price will be dependent on whether the federal incentives are in place in late 2026. If yes, higher. If no, lower.

But hey, its fun to argue about something none of us know for sure, right?

I have no idea. But Slate seems to think a fair number of people will be fine just using their phones and I have to assume that they did some market research before making their product decision.

I only use my phone. Do not own and will not buy a vehicle that has an integrated screen. We are out there.

They were there with the slate team. The slate team let them leave with that number.

It's not like the slate team is a bunch of idiots holding a PR event and letting everyone walk out with an artificially high number. If Amazon says the new kindle is coming out under $400, you'll see it at $395+. Not 300. They can't completely fail PR101.

You’re comparing the 2025 price of a Model 3 to your imagined price of a 2027 Slate.

And you’re mistaken because, as I’ve pointed out several times now, no one is buying a new Slate for the advertised price anytime soon after it’s released.

The three of you are all free to continue deluding yourselves about the price of the Slate. I won’t be doing that.

Perhaps, but I thought the appeal of this vehicle is DIY. Slate University will guide us step by step on wrapping.

The point I am making is to keep it out of collision shops in the event of a mishap.

Oh yes, I agree with you on DIY and on Slates probably requiring far less services from the collision shops.

In my area, many of those collision shops also offer car customization services on today's cars. I am a life-long "car guy" and I like to tinker with them (which might explain why I quickly made a Slate reservation). I have friends that are also "car guys" but they usually have someone else make the mods for them (usually it is a shop but sometimes it is me they ask). With my post, I was trying to say that I expect similar industry shift with Slate Auto. Apologies if it seemed like I misunderstood you.

That’s great. So, the rest of the market pretty much looks at price and aesthetic appeal, then makes a purchase decision. They’re not considering weight unless it’s a detriment, which in this comparison is not the case. Again, you seem to think people want less range and I can’t go there with you because that defies common sense. Similarly, you seem to believe few people will put screens in Slates and I just can’t see that happening. The Slate dash mount will be their top-selling trinket.

Of course no one is asking for less range. My point is dragging around the weight of batteries for range you don’t need costs efficiency. I think there is a benefit to not paying for more than what I need. As much as I would appreciate the additional range of the larger battery, if I don’t need it, why drag around the additional weight and compromise efficiency?

Yup. Furthermore, I apply that same logic regarding 4 doors on a pickup truck.
