You can solder wires to a garage door opener and run them to a button and avoid needing a power supply, just change the battery every few years. Mine seem to work a lot better hidden in the dash than attached to the visor too.

Garage door openers have these little black buttons inside them. The wide plastic thing you push on the opener actually pushes this tiny button.

Two of those silver prongs form a connection which causes the opener to transmit. Take a wire or paperclip and touch two prongs at a time. Some will do nothing but when the garage door opens, the two prongs you're touching are the ones that do it. When the button is pushed, those 2 prongs close the circuit, power passes through and the opener transmits the signal.

Solder a wire to each of those two prongs and run it to a momentary button. When you push the button, the garage door opener will open/close the door.

It's basically making an extension for that tiny button to go to a larger button. You can mount the button somewhere and hide the garage door opener anywhere depending on the length of the wires you use.

Here is one I have in my Jeep. I printed a little garage door decal for it although some of the ink is wearing off

Are you saying there's a practical, real-world use for the skills I've developed making flight sim switch boxes? This will be a fun early project for me, thanks for the inspo!

There's 5 volt power in those sensor modules. I bought a car that had a toll transponder mounted on the roof at the center of the windshield. The power wire for it was poked through the windshield gasket and wired to the module.
