I haven't seen this one posted, just saw it on Kickstarter:

It's a camper built into a tonneau cover. Cover props up, hard walls fold down to the bed rails, and then the rest pops out. Looks like they're planning to make one for a 5' bed. Obviously, it's a Kickstarter, so it may well never come to market but they're targeting Feb 2027 for delivery apparently.

How many here have owned & used a pop-up camper trailer? I've heard they tend to smell moldy after a while due to the fabric holding moisture. And once they get moldy, it's hard to get rid of.

It would be good to hear from anyone with experience using a pop-up camper. 🏕

You basically just have to treat anything with any soft sides like a tent. When it inevitably gets damp inside and out, it needs to dry before mold or mildew start to form. So ventilating it is important. It also means you have to open it back up to dry and air it out asap when you get home. Moisture absorbers inside can also be helpful when it's packed away for extended periods.

My parents traveled for weeks to months at a time for years in a pop-up truck camper, and with proper care it never developed a smell.

I'm impressed by the design work. Are you using Fusion360 or some other parametric modeler?

Once I have the vehicle in hand (or before then if Slate releases a model) I'll be mocking up some much simpler add-ons in Fusion.

No, but… just reading your comment and head was instantly overwhelmed by the smell of army tents. That canvas had it’s own oder. And I’ve been retired since ‘93 🤪

I wanted to share a picture of the nose over on the slate for those interested. I've got the weight down to 175lbs on this shell, but you will need to add another 50-70lbs for Line-X which I highly recommend.

90% sure those are AI, and the bed isn't as large as those make it look.

Pretty sure that image has been doctored. A full size mattress won’t fit between the wheel wells, and I don’t think you’d gain the needed 15” in length by just removing the mid gate. Maybe if the seats are moved all the way forward.
Great idea, but I think you’d have to be a little height challenged and find a very custom mattress to make this work.
