Who know there was a searchable Unicode Explorer?!

Last vehicle (trailer, but still..) I registered in AZ, the DMV -- ADOT here -- printed my title along with a Temporary Plate on plastic-y paper at the ADOT office. They mailed the metal license plate to me shortly thereafter.

I would guess Slate Auto will charge a Documentation Fee. It's customary to do that these days.

The plate I want is really esoteric. People probably won't even recognize it as a custom plate:

U 1F50B

It's the Unicode codepoint for the full battery symbol.

In regards of the original intent of the thread, In Washington, every car I've bought new came with paper tags and the dealer submitted paperwork to the state for plates, which then got shipped to them and I had to go pick up. I'm not sure how it would work with a direct sale like with the Slate, and I don't think there's an option to just get a custom plate from the start, as the car needs to be registered to apply for the custom plate. In any case, no way am I paying extra for a minor inconvenience like having paper tags for a bit.
Is there a Unicode for a 20-80% charge. Battery longevity and all.

I’m a snowbird and having the truck shipped to family member in Arizona. Depending on the fee, I would have it delivered with plates already installed.

Outstanding!

When I was in Armor Officer Basic
at Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1969,
the OH-58 Kiowa
(the Bell Jet Ranger for civilians)
was being tested.
I volunteered to be a passenger
on one of the test flights.
The pilot was a Vietnam vet
and made it a memorable experience.

The paper plate stuck to the back window is fine for driving, I'm fine with not paying extra. I've always sort of viewed the paper one as marker "Hey look at me, I'm rolling on new wheels!". (and my wife will be calling me elitist again)

We have no inspections, nor front plates, in MIchigan. The last few years they have released new versions of old plates. First they came out with "Water Wonderland", then "Winter Water Wonderland". The latter was the one I remember from growing up. I'll probably get one of those.

I checked into ordering a vanity plate, but found out they are only six characters. So I couldn't get "Reddy KW" and someone already has RedyKW. So I won't bother with a vanity plate.

(big plans for some Reddy Kilowatt stickers though!)

I just looked at custom plate options in Washington State, and this is one of the options. Scary!

Apparently JP Patches was a local children's show from '58 - '81, and the plates benefit Seattle Children's Hospital. So, a good cause, but still... 😂
I have a friend that would have gotten that plate with "ICP" as a vanity tag. (Insane Clown Posse-band)

Very scary! We had "Bozo's Circus" from WGN in Chicago for a very long time.
'Bozo made a mistake!' was one of his taglines.

In Arizona Alternative Fuel Vehicles have a special license plate the conveys a special privilege: ability to drive solo in the HOV lane.

Apparently that''s about to expire.

A provision of federal code [23 USC 166(b)(4)] currently allows alternative fuel vehicles, including electric vehicles, to use high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes regardless of the number of riders. That provision is currently scheduled to expire on Sept. 30, 2025. If it does, alternative fuel vehicles, including electric vehicles, carrying only a driver would no longer have access to HOV lanes during restricted times.

Instead of charging extra fees for EVs, Arizona was giving them a break using a special Vehicle License Tax formula. That's ending too.

In accordance with Arizona Revised Statute 28-5805, alternative fuel vehicles are assessed VLT using the same formula used for traditional vehicles. Those vehicles that were initially registered prior to 2023 will keep their current VLT formula until the vehicle ownership changes or the registration is canceled.
