The more I read here the more I think people read “under $20,00“ and stopped thinking. Now they consider the rest, both known and unknown.

I don’t disagree at all — I put down a deposit with my eyes wide open. The real turning point for me was losing the $7,500 EV rebate, and I’m sure Slate wasn’t thrilled either.
Originally I was picturing something like: $19,500 after the rebate, about $3,000 for the SUV kit (not $5,000 plus possible installation), and maybe $600 for a stereo — then tax (around $2,000) and whatever fees. At this point, for a second vehicle, it’s just gotten too expensive for me.

I’m disappointed, but I don’t blame Slate. I still think the concept is great and I hope it works out for them. And as I’ve said before, I really prefer AWD over RWD.

‘Where does the $5,000 price come from for the SUV kit? Has Slate made an official announcement?”

Yes, it was announced by Slate that the SUV kit is $5000. They did not say if this was for the kit alone, or if the $5000 included install by them.

The "under 20k" thing feels like a total bait and switch once you add the stuff a normal person actually needs. idc about manual windows but no awd in a rural area is kinda sketchy for a daily driver. tbh you’re probably looking at a 20-30% range hit as soon as the temp drops below freezing. maybe wait for the gen 2 or just look at an equinox ev if you want something that feels like a real car.

Can you provide a link to the source? I have not seen it on the Slate website. I'd like to learn more about this.

The CEO announced it… and quite a few sources online verify the $5000 for the SUV. Just do a quick search online and you can verify that.

CEO Barman said this during the 2025 Q&A session… should be easy to find… also the larger battery may be in same pricing category. I am sure Slate is still deciding on these types of details, so things may change… I mean, honestly, the low pricing was the main attraction for the majority of the 150,000 deposits they said they have gotten.

Things change. I'm just trying to avoid speculating on false info and will rather wait for official pricing to be announced when they get around to it.

Scrub to time stamp @ 3 minutes 40 seconds for the CEO answering question on pricing of SUV kit (and larger battery).
