Today's SLATE Alameda event VIN# 000002 unit has the Center and L/R speaker options installed now, head over to that posting for pics care of @motorolas (Thank You!).

The speakers in Motorolas' photos look rather different from the Maker rendering:

The rendering is some kind of low-profile sub-flush speaker in the compartment door, the actual one is a 1/2" deep grille over a regular 3 1/2" or 4" speaker.

I think you get your Slate before I get mine, so I'll copy your solution. Just don't break the bank...it goes against our Slate ethos.

I'm looking forward to experimenting.

There will be high bang-for-the-buck solutions I'm sure.

Compared to the render, the real life implementation here looks like a cheap add-on. IMO. Maybe that’s just preproduction but I certainly wouldn’t spend money on it. YMMV

It would save on not having to carry “audio friendly” dash plates.

That "actual" is a benchtop display. The covers are not what would be installed in the truck.

The display I think is mostly to demo the sound, and it actually did fill up the room it was in in Huntington beach with good sounding audio. Considering how much smaller a truck cab or even SUV is, I don't think that will be a problem.

I'm sticking with the cheap mp3 player and tws speakers for now. I'm pretty sure crutchfield will come out with a system for it later, that I can't even afford to druel over. Besides the Bluetooth speakers are so handy .

Slate should sell a kit with a 120V wall outlet to DC power supply to turn one of those into a tabletop speaker if the user ever decides to take it out. That's probably what I'd do to mine when I upgraded! Make it into a garage radio. ESPECIALLY if the speaker has some sort of SLATE embossed branding on it or something.
