Contrary to what I was told at the Philadelphia Zoo event, those window cranks work backwards.

I recall sitting in the demo Slate they brought to Cleveland last summer, and I thought those seats were quite comfortable.

I wonder what kind of changes they might make, or if those seats are used in some other vehicles?
The real test is to see how comfortable those seats feel after a long drive. But then again, you will only have about a two-hour drive with the standard battery before you need to get out and re-charge.

Both your legs and the battery. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did it appear the little guy had some difficulty cranking the window up?

I know the reply, repeat after me, "it's only a proto, only a proto..."

It was good to see that rotating forward was down and rotating backwards was up. Hopefully it is like that on the drivers side as well.

Um, no. He was rotating backwards, clockwise on the passenger side, and the window was going down. That should be the up motion. Up should be counter-clockwise on the driver side. As was mentioned by cadblu, prototype, prototype. Here's hoping.

Then perhaps they are using the same regulator both sides so it will be intuitive on drivers side and backwards on passenger.

As far as the seats go it's really up in the air, like they said these weren't the final product. But they have shown a video of 4 people in the vehicle and a bar across the front of the seat to move it backwards and forwards. As the forwards and backwards movement of front seats is almost an industry standard in manual adjusting seats to have some type of bar/handle in the front of the seat, I can't see them spending more money to have that changed in these seats.

IMHO, seats are one of the main reasons you do a test drive. I've seen so many seat wars online it's mind blowing. Ten people test the same seat, and you would swear the seats were made on different planets.

Same seat...

  • This seat sucks
  • This seat rocks
  • This seat is cheap
  • This seat is the best I've ever sat in
  • This seat is missing X, Y, Z
  • This seat doesn't fit me
  • This seat fits me perfectly
  • This seat hurts my butt
  • This seat is too narrow
  • This seat is too wide
  • This seat has too much bolstering
  • This seat needs more bolstering
  • This seat has no thigh support
You gotta sit in the seat before you buy. Trust but verify.
Having spent many, many, many hours riding in military vehicles, I've been pretty happy with any seat in a passenger vehicle.

Which basically means... One size does NOT fit all...

The study of ergonomics / human factors engineering is quite interesting. As applied to automobiles, making sure everything is within reach of the driver for safety considerations is often given more importance than comfort. Many trade-offs factor into the seat design and range of adjustments. I think the production Slate will have reasonably comfortable seats that fit the majority drivers and passengers.
