I have been trying to find this little clip again. Jeremy Snyder talks about the audio/stereo systems that will be available, explicitly stating there is a stereo that can be mounted in the center console. He mentions having mechanical and electrical points where accessories can be mounted and plugged in. It will be interesting to see how this all actually works.
Center console vs dash is a choice.

I wouldn't want to pay for or have installed the wiring, cabling, speakers, antenna, and any accessories associated with a radio, stereo, or any other form of passenger compartment entertainment equipment. But that's just me. I'm okay with a horn though.

Then the slate might be the wrong car for you.
As long as they make it easy to route those things and the taps are available, then Id be fine to do the work to install. Except that I wont because I dont need a radio or speakers at all and Im happy to not pay for any of it.
