Am I alone in this? I just don't much care for the slatelets. I try to learn as much as I can about the truck so see a lot of pictures and videos and people keep mentioning the slatelets like its a main selling point. I guess its a neat thing, but I dont really see the draw of them.
I am also not a fan of badges on cars or brands so that might have a lot to do with it?

I think it's sort of in the same vein as the rubber ducks for Jeeps, especially in the PNW. It's a cute thing to make, collect, trade with other Slate owners, etc. I believe they said they're 3D printed so you could presumably make your own designs.

I doubt I'll get any, unless there's a special "1st Edition" or "Early Adopter" one for people who have reserved early.

This is why Im glad I dont even have to pay for paint. I definitely wont bother with anything that is about looks.

I can see them being fun to collect if they're limited to specific events or requirements. Like if you can get one for taking a factory tour, are a day 1 reservation holder, or one for showing up to a sponsored meetup or something like that. Badges that say "I was there when..." If they're just mass produced little tchotchkes, then probably not so much.

Personally I'm not interested in them. But If I got one with the truck, or for free from some kind of promo or event, I'd put in in there for sure!

Slate Auto deserves some credit for not putting badges on the body panels, assuming the configurator / maker is showing that accurately. Methinks that may be because it makes installing a wrap easier.

Whatever the reason, it's appreciated.

I've even removed badges from a brand new car before. I got the idea from seeing a friend's car that was repainted and didn't have the badges put back on. It looked good that way.

From ChatGPT:

Slate Auto Pickup Truck Slatelets - opinions? img_4177-jpe
There's definitely unmet demand for a functional minimalist small pickup with high efficiency and low maintenance.

Apparently Slate Auto is also all-in on the idea of creating a truck that can be a means of self-expression, not just a means of transportation.

Different strokes for different demographics.

I'm a big believer in keeping vehicles fairly factory, but taking advantage of whatever OEM addons they offer for personalization if offered. I can safely say I'd be one of those people who would go all-in on those Subaru lifestyle badges if I owned a Subaru:

I just don't get the slatelets being IN the truck. Can't really show them off that way. They should make a mounting bar so they sit flush with the front/back window so people can see them.

Heck, if they held up in the sun I'd even say they should make an external Slatelet bar for the front or back where people could add slatelets to other poeple's trucks like Jeeps do with the ducks... of course it probably wouldn't be long until we start seeing "I am a terrible driver / I can't park" slatelets being stuck to people's trucks!

Ok I could start to see the draw if they was external especially that "I can't park" or "bad driver" one would be pretty good

I personally would love to see what sort of designs will come out in the OEM market, especially coming from a Jeep, I think I'd personally would love to have Slatelets. Gimme my little trinkets that make me smile every day, please and thank you.
