I found this video which is talking about the de dion axle in a the ford ranger ev that was made for a few years starting in 1998.

So then I started doing research on the ford ranger Ev and found this funny reddit thread where people are having the same debates we are having. This a little before the slate was announced.

The ford ranger Ev was a 2 door, 6ft bed truck. It cost 50K, about 100K in todays dollars.

At the same time there was also a chevy S10 EV.

Also if the slate doesnt make it, I think it will be interesting to a lot of people and enthusiasts will maintain it

You just need one of two things to keep an orphan running forever. Infinite time. Or infinite money.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that, and that Slate is a hit. That's not a bad thing to hope for, right?

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger electric, it has half the power and 1/3 the range of the Slate but it works fine. I debate updating its batteries or getting a Slate or just keeping it as is cause it does still work fine. I’ve got my reservation in but the Slate still has a lot of unknowns, we’ll see how this year goes.

I test drove one of those Rangers, as well as one of those Th!nk City cars. I liked em both but they were far over my budget at the time. The Th!nk was at a dealership in San Francisco. The sales guy REALLY REALLY wanted to help me buy a new Explorer pickup. He kept saying "A guy like you....." it was pretty funny after 5 minutes, it got old after 30.

I noticed a lot of similarities between the Ranger EV and the Slate Truck as well. I thought it was a bit tragic that it wasn't followed by a version on an EV-native platform (rather than a conversion).
