Fresh air vents would be nice, shoot, with no hot ICE engine in the front they could easily do a fresh-air vent like older cars had that was an extra duct straight from the front of the truck into the dashboard!

Well, if we're going retro with roll-up windows... so Slate would have to drive the wipers with an electric vacuum pump. ;)

LOL, or, a hand-driven vacuum pump (handle on the dash) to store vacuum in a big 'ole vacuum tank.
No, vacuums are un-natural.
Just a dash mounted lever with a direct connect to the wiper. I think the Cushman's at the state park ranger job had that.

And did I mention the Rambler that my sister had? Foot pedal to pump the WW fluid? Those were the days.

I would love to do that.
Unfortunately, nobody (including dealerships) in New Hampshire or Massachusetts sells those rubber refills anymore. It's been that way for 12 or more years.
Yes, the counter guy at the parts store mentioned those. I remember trying to squeeze them down (longways) fighting to get them into slot. He didn't suggest they were still available. I'll have to check into that.

My '14 Ford Focus wipers lasted at least five years. Didn't seem quite right for planned obsolescence. Maybe they figured the transmission was enough of a FU.

Hmmm, I bought some VW TDI parts several years ago, they gave me a free sample of WW fluid concentrate (from Germany?). It was like a pint, that turned into about 5 gallons of fluid. High quality stuff. Then they never had it again when I tried to buy some.

Ope! Thinking of a new business: CAB's Slate Parts store. Must resist!

Looks like a standard J hook configuration to me 🙂

Sorry (not sorry) to necro the thread but I SEARCHED instead of just asking and it led me here. I was wondering if the Slate would have windshield cleaning fluid sprayers. That probably isn't a regulated thing, right, so maybe not? But I saw your picture and there it is, clear as day. Good to know!

Actually, not a bad idea. But at least I hope they would include some kind of air filter. Can't remember which old car it was, but when I used to open the "fresh air" vent a huge plume of dust would enter the cabin. Uggh.

There are regulations about the windshield wiping and washing system, so it'll have washer jets:

https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-V/part-571/subpart-B/section-571.104

I'm guessing the jet for the passenger side is what's mounted to that flat-topped cone near the center of that picture.

I knew wipers were regulated but that CFR doesn't say anything about requiring a fluid. It specifically defines a Frequency and Wiped Area % only.

It references J942(1965) which recommends "An apparatus for storing, filtering, and applying fluid to the exterior of the windshield [...]" so yes, by that inclusion and the wording in S4.2.1 it seems a fluid delivery system is required.

Thanks for the pointer in the right direction!

I wonder if it'll have a "Low Washer Fluid" warning. I was helping a Canadian friend buy a car and was surprised to find just about every Canadian market variant of car I was looking at with him had it. My first US car ('94) had it too.

I honestly hope they don't, yes it's simple, but I see them break due to fluid build up on the sensor causing it to read empty (Rain-X does this ALOT). People come into the shop more often having a sludged up sensor instead of actually low fluid. It shocks me still how often it happens
