I just got this email from Slate for test drives at their Gardena, CA location.

But I can't get a time slot booked!

Is it the SUV?

I selected party of two merely because my wife will be with me.

I would have liked a ride in the truck, but I'm sure the vibe will be the same-ish.

Just as I thought when I saw it said "test ride" on the email and not "test drive", it's only a ridealong as passengers.

"Slate test ride and ride-along events are promotional public or reservation-only stops hosted by EV startup Slate Auto to let prospective buyers experience passenger rides in their upcoming affordable electric pickup truck."

That was my expectation. It was announced earlier this would be the case.

At least I can jump inside.

I am noticing the scheduler says America/New York, so I think they didn't set it up correctly for the time zone.

When I first added it to the calendar by clicking the link it created an event at 7:00 am--the appointment was booked for 10:00.

The email confirmation is correct.

I figure at the very least, you nice folks can report back to us on the touch and feel of the interior, the noise level, the ride quality. It will be interesting if they get you on the highway, or it's just a 25 mph ride around the block.

Excited to hear first impressions from real people!

That would be a first, if they do indeed let us ride or drive the SUVs.
I think so far it has been trucks only.

Fastback, lift kit, A/T wheels, fog lights, 5 switch, tablet mount, etc.

White roof wrap and shoulder decals but mostly Slate gray.

At least I assume that all the ridealong vehicles named after starter packs will be built as that starter pack.

And in less than 5,256 hours I'll know exactly what the Slate in my driveway will look like!

24 will be quick, but 5k feels like a lot of hours.

Can't wait to hear back on what kind of test route they pick. Will it be something really simple and slow or a proper loop showing off how the truck drives?

Ford did a "Drive 4 UR Community" event in my crummy little Iowa town I was living in for college once and our horrible roads gave the CMAX and Focus they were demoing quite a workout.
