Nope hahah :CWL:

I'm already way too deep in my building and adding nearly every accessory under the sun. It's been tough on the builder to scale things back and be more realistic on what I would need on the daily when everything is just so cool looking.

Ha, I was in the same boat earlier. I'd build, take a break and check my wallet on the cabinet... return and remove a couple items, then check the couch cushions. So. Much. Stuff! 😂

Yes I will! Slate is a great deal at 24,9. Any accessories/mods I’ll order for pickup and/or installation over the border in OR for no sales tax!

But I’m not gonna dump thousands more into it, at least at the start, otherwise it’s not as solid of a value.

I'm going to keep my initial accessories limited to stuff that's necessary to keep it in good condition long term with the initial purchase - I'll want a wrap (may just buy a roll) before it gets too contaminated, and an all-weather floor liner. I'll need a set of snow tires from my local tire shop, don't want to risk sliding into someone. That's about it, pretty cheap.

And a heated seat cover if it arrives in January!

But after that, I figure that if I'm paying $0.14/kWh at 3.25 mi/kWh = 4.3 cents per mile instead of $4.50 per gallon at 16 mpg = 28 cents per mile, after driving the Slate 1000 miles it will have saved me $240 that I can spin back into accessories!

Lots. Just....lots.
It depends on how the financing is structured. A 'normal' car, your stuck with what you get and you can only get financed for so much. Thats how most people operate; inside the bubble of what the bank will loan you.

But with a Slate, if you get approved for 40k, and spend only 25k, its not like you cant go back later and get the other 10k in upgrades, but you wont be using the loan money to do it. Or you do, and get it all right away. And your loan (and the interest rate?) reflects the amount financed. Or your loan is limited to 20k, so maybe you get the Blank and just add them later. Or you pay without a loan at all and then......buy some now, buy some later?

I guess my main point is we are all assuming that the Blank Slate + accessories is what is being financed.....but what if its not? It could be a bundled car loan + a regular loan. Or just a car loan thats offered. This isnt like options from the factory that are locked in; theres no reason the financing has to be structured like what we are used to seeing with other vehicles. Its probably part of why they actively avoid calling them "options" and correct people when they call them that - because they ARENT options, technically.

Really, this is going to really start spinning how loans for cars are structured on their ears and how we think about them. Maybe you co-sign with junior for the Blank (or just gift them it), but its up to them to finance whatever they want later however they want, just like was common in the 90s. You want a huge stereo? Ok kid, get a summer job.

I feel like im explaining a car lease vs a car loan vs a purchase or purchase agreement vs renting a car to people in the 1970s. We all (generally all) understand these things now, but once upon a time a lease for a car was a WILD idea.

I'm trying to keep myself below $30k OTD. I'm assuming $1k delivery or so which means I have a couple of grand to play with for features... But man I really want those animated turn signals!

I am going to just get the Blank Slate.
with TTL it will be about $28k and then add ~$1,500 destination puts it right at $29,500, with my $15k down payment my Credit Union right now says my payment will be $275 a month for 5 years. Very doable if I live to be 78 lol

Its honestly cheap enough Im trying to figure out if I take a loan or just pay cash. If I go cash, It's a Blank Slate. A loan...well, thats what got me thinking about how the financing gets structured and what gets put into what kind of bucket. 🤔

I'm getting the light options just to have the hardware in place - then hoping I can hack it with RGB LEDs and an ESP32 or similar microcontroller....

I'll probably use the stock light animations in the stock lights for regulatory compliance, but I love the idea of RGBs elsewhere on the truck! Something like this:

across the tailgate or a ladder rack, synchronized with brake and turn, would be sweet.

I went through and built out pretty much what would be my dream Bronco II. Spare tire carrier, center console arm rest, audio stuff, not much else. I'm going to try to keep it as simple as I can to avoid feature creep that hits a lot of the typical up-featured dealer cars!

My dream is Slate stays true to their word and I can slowly pick and choose accessories as I feel I need them!
