If they need some 'real world' driving data, ship me one of them and I'll put it through its paces as a daily driver / parts getter
We'd be like the families that Chrysler loaned turbine cars to for testing.
I have vent windows in my LTD and I love them. Rarely use them though. I have much less fond memories of Dodge D150s and the like growing up with ever-increasing amounts of cardboard wedged in the latch to keep the window shut as the seals aged.
While I think they're fun to have the second set...
Change CRV to Honda Fit and you've pretty much nailed what I'm doing. I really hope that Prelude ends up coming out. If the Slate didn't happen I'd go to the Prelude as the runabout. Either that or make the Element the full time daily / workhorse / beater.
I love white wheels on pickups, I am thinking if I get the base Slate I'll probably paint the steelies white once it's paid off. Regen braking means a lot less brake dust!
I'm hoping there's at least cutouts for 6'' speakers in the doors. I just want something more substantial than removable speaker pods. I don't want to take out speakers and things like that, just let me drill 'em into the door and be done with it!
Honda Elements have their speakers mounted to...
This is also good info to know if we need to emergency tow the vehicle. 90% of tow companies use purely flatbeds now but there's still a small amount that will roll up with a conventional tow-truck.
It is crazy how vehicle dependent it is depending on how the drivelines are set up.
For...
Sometimes it's better to pay more and get a name brand than some of these dubious eBay ones. Even the cheapest low level pioneers and Kenwood double din units will usually keep trucking for years. Especially as both of the low end units that I have received software updates for quite a while...
There's probably some PR liability with having a rep on the site who would answer questions, they'd risk giving out answers or promises they can't keep in the long run if things change. Even if most of us know how early on this project is.
That being said it would still be nice to have one...
I was looking through some of the double-dins that I have in my workshop. There's a couple different brands but they all have the same general layout. Hot (always on), Hot (key switched accessory), ground, headlights-on signal for dimming, and then pairs of wires for each of the speakers. And of...
I agree, wiring and components in the "regulated tech" from a further above post have been in vehicles for years and have their costs manufactured down to nearly nothing. They've got to remember we've had airbags in cars since 1973. They've had time to cheapen up the parts and...
That would make taking the roof on and off far easier. Even with my truck's simple soft top it was 19 steps. This will make it far more like removing a roof on an older Bronco or Blazer.
^ This. I'm betting 100% that this darker blue portion of the speedometer switches to the backup camera when you put it in reverse.
Other aftermarket gauge makers have done it:, there's a digital gauge for various Hondas called the "ID4Motion"
In a perfect world, seeing as they are only one color, I could see the sunroof company getting a bunch of roof panels, doing the mods on them themselves, and then selling the whole plastic top piece for a 'DIY swap job.' Just have a core charge for an entire roof panel LOL
Finally, I will have an excuse for being at WalMart... "I'm just here because my Slate is being serviced!"
Same, my poor Fit has been hit by two huge hail storms now. It looks like it was beaten by an army of hammers and the paint is coming off all over the bumpers but it refuses to die. Just...
I'm in Texas so I'm sure there will be 0% chance of a state sponsored EV credit by the time this comes out. If anything I'll be fined for getting an EV here by then LOL,
That's good to know!
I'm really hoping they continue their USA tour, I am very curious how the seating position is in them first and foremost. Maybe by the time it hits my region they'll have a few more built and can offer demo drives.
There were some things in the initial videos coming out about the Slate that I want to see in person, particularly those glove-box style doors, the one on their demo model looked like it was already about to fall off. I've bought vehicles sight-unseen before and I'm all fine on taking that...
