So I was thinking more about it, the slate has physical climate control knobs. Assuming you remote start it, the HVAC should just return to doing whatever it is set to. As long as you have the car set to heat and the blowers on, I would think as soon as the remote-start button turns the Slate...
If the body panels are easy enough to replace, I'd be in the same mindset. But that extends to whatever composite panels make up the roof, tailgate, etc. Will they all truly be 'bolt-on' panels that I can take off and swap if another Domino's delivery driver swerves to miss a squirrel and...
That's what is intriguing for me. If one of the buttons on the remote is just 'precondition' then I'm fine with that, as long as it's like any standard keyfob. Maybe have a preset cabin temp you set when you plug your phone into the truck and it'll store that for whenever you run...
I believe the reason the Slate is that 'grey' color is that is the easiest color for when you use recycled / recovered plastics for matching. That might just be a thing I heard many years ago but it does bode well if they are looking to mass produce plastic panels. I'll gladly replace a damaged...
I know exactly what kind of tables those are. Way back in the day my step-father entered some contest at our local Chevrolet dealer and one of the door prizes was a 'tablet.' Ended up winning that tablet and it was some barely functional no-name loaded with an old version of generic android. And...
I grew up and lived in Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, and all through those years I was driving a big V8 Thunderbird with rear-wheel drive and no ABS/Traction Assist. Rarely did I ever have a problem as long as I stayed on the surface streets. Ditto what many other members have said about the poor...
The bit about not having a DIN hole is interesting, I thought the other thread mentioned there was going to be one behind the dash? Maybe there will be an addon you can opt-in for that gives you a panel with the DIN hole for a radio.
I do like the no-cel service and pushing the truck updates...
The bikini top is exactly how I roll in my Geo. I just can't take the doors off. The roof keeps most of the drizzles you get caught in out of the driver's area as long as you keep the side windows up. But even then, like a Jeep, the Tracker's built with the idea it'll get rained on. Everything...
I can't hate on the look of the Slate. I kind of dig it. It's basic and utilitarian. But this comes from someone who also owns a Honda Element with acres of chunky plastic.
I've seen people hating on the looks for the Slate in the same breath they praise how great the Telo looks, so definitely...
If they're going to go for someone like the above at least find a YouTuber like Aging Wheels who does nothing but weird bare-bones EVs and get some positive press out of him and his EV loving followers.
The target age group on instagram will see right through this, as they have by the comment...
I hope the slate has decent tilt to the steering column. I have a Honda Element, and even with the driver's seat fully lowered, the top of the steering wheel covers up the top of the speedometer.
Edit: and I'm just under 6'1!
Edit 2: They pulled that guy straight out of The Simpsons
Almost every car I've owned or worked on has had 205/215 tires, and that's everything from My Thunderbird, Geo, LTDs, Buicks, old trucks, etc. Could definitely get away with a narrower tire gauge. Even the biggest hauler of them all, a Dodge D250 cummins ran 215s for the 6600GVWR rated truck...
One thing about Andriod Auto / Carplay that hasn't been said yet is once you have it set-up, it's pretty much get in and go.
When I get in the car and plug in my phone (or if it was wireless it would just start), mine pulls up my music and Waze.
If I get a text I can have it read it, but I have...
^ Agreed, It sounds like most of the trucks functions can be done from the keyfob. I 100% believe they'll need SOME form of app connectivity so they can push updates to the vehicle software (I wouldn't doubt this is something to make the feds happy like when Tesla had to push a software update...
I think the wireless thing came from the Tesla aux switch addon, which is wireless I believe. That Aux switch array looks to be not even textured on the website so I'm sure they don't even have the design figured out for the truck yet. I would hope they are hard-wired or at least physically...
I probably wouldn't buy one if the incentives went away. But, things can change in a year and a half. My finances being a big variable at the time of the Slate launch. If there's still that 200k units sold loophole that gets Slate the credit till the end of 2026... I'd probably jump on it just...
