My biggest concern is even though Slate is a Michigan based company, the Direct purchase process may still have problems. I had to drive to Ohio to purchase my first Tesla, and I have not heard how Slate will address this. The dealer lobby is very strong in Michigan.

Also, will Slate take trade-ins or will that be thru one of the car web sites?

I hadn’t thought of trading in a vehicle as I presumed that was a nonstarter for DTC transactions? Unless you mean Carvana or something?

But in our new building codes there is a requirement that all new residential and commercial construction has to include EV charging.
The recreation center went to court citing extra cost AKA less profits, but the judge dismissed the case saying that the building rules are non negotiable.
The case was bought by a non profit supported by various oil companies who are terrified that EV's will signal the end of their companies.
This goes hand in hand with a mandate the auto dealerships will be required to actually stock EV's, but so far have refused despite losing in court, repeatedly.

I love the "EV sales are flat" nonsense. Well if you don't stock EV's nobody can buy them so of course the sales figures are poor.

It's more expensive to retrofit 240V plug in your garage that it is to have it built in at the time of construction.

Can’t imagine Slate itself will get involved with trade-ins, not without physical dealer presence.

Exactly, new homes are required to be pre-wired for all sorts of things, refrigerators, microwaves, ranges, washers and dryers, service outlets for HVAC equipment, etc. That isn't because the appliance lobby pushed for appliance mandates - it is because most wiring errors (and associated fires) happen during retrofits and homeowner modifications. If you think there is a reasonable chance that someone will need a given appliance in a home's life, it is safer to plan for it during construction.

So they don't mandate that we can only buy EV's, the mandate is that dealerships have to stock them, giving us the choice of buying EV or ICE.
