Autosteer and Adaptive Cruise Control

Was recently in an almost new Subaru Forester rental. I found the overly-busy infotainment somewhat bewildering and could not get my phone to pair over Bluetooth. Give me simple.

People can drive without tech in their cars. Don’t do it Slate…stick to your knitting.
I agree, wiring and components in the "regulated tech" from a further above post have been in vehicles for years and have their costs manufactured down to nearly nothing. They've got to remember we've had airbags in cars since 1973. They've had time to cheapen up the parts and simplify/standardize them. Same with things like backup cameras, TPMS controllers, etc. Adding in provisions for modern auto-steer and lane assist is what balloons up the price and we end up with another promising EV ending up at 2X the projected sales price.

Being an "EV" doesn't mean it has to be full of all sorts of driving aids and cutting edge tech. Give me an EV like the Comuta-Car or Lectric Leopard that is just an electric powertrain on a basic vehicle!

They can! But they also should have the option to add it, if they choose. Adding compatibility is perfectly in-line with slate's knitting...
There is a big difference between adding a different wrap and adding autosteer and adaptive cruise control. Those commercials showing people gleefully driving with their hands off the wheel make me cringe.

There is a big difference between adding a different wrap and adding auto-steer. Those commercials showing people gleefully driving with their hands off the wheel make me cringe.
Slate is supposed to be customizable... it's okay if you're scared of the tech, you don't need to get it. If the customization ends at "adding a wrap".... not much of a business model

And again- not even asking for the tech to be an option from Slate. Just asking for support for 3rd party

And again- not even asking for the tech to be an option from Slate. Just asking for support for 3rd party
There are about a hundred things that could go wrong inviting 3rd parties to customize key systems that impact driving safety. The only people happy with this type of approach are litigation attorneys.

Slate can leave space on the steering column and space in the body to run wires.

There are a hundred things that can go wrong every time I drive to work. Doesn’t mean I don’t do it every day!

The tech is already available in over 300 cars. Clearly the approach is wider than you see

Nothing cringy about taking hands off the wheel if it's lane keeping and dynamically performing cruise. I've used both for 5+ years and while I never take my eyes off the road, and rarely take my hands off the wheel (it will yell at me if I do), it's not scary at all.

I learned how to use my knee a long time ago.

By modifying this and that without certification by an A&P mechanic - I remind him that it's an invitation for disaster.

I never said I would be installing anything. I don’t want auto steering and I don’t want the truck junked up with all that stuff or pre wired or pre programmed or —————.

Leave it be simple. Leave some channels and routing for people who want to wire stuff up. I may want a dash camera, maybe a radio. I don’t know. If I have room in the panels to run some wiring and space to add things, I’m a happy camper.

Ford maverick with lane CENTERING works great when in adaptive cruise. Lane keeping seems more like a safety feature to keep you from crossing over. Our bolt euv had lane keeping. Not the same as lane centering.

i don’t think the Slate needs lane centering. It’s a local commuter vehicle, not a highway cruiser.
