Another consideration is the Cargo kit cost. We know the square back SUV is $5k. What will be reasonable for the cargo kit, $2500, $3000?
I would pay between $2000-$3000 for a fastback cargo kit. Maybe $1500-$2500 for the square back. Cheaper would be nice though. But it depends on the final design and compatibility with other accessories.

If you look at the Munro vid from the launch event, they show the roll cage it decent detail.

The main thing is that the rear curtain airbags are built into the top rails, and that the mounting behind the seats comes inside of the wheel arches, seriously eating into the width of what could be slid into the bed.

So a cargo roll cage or frame for supporting the roof and sides would have to 1) not have airbags, and 2) not block the bed floor to the same degree.

Seems like a cargo kit wouldn't need airbags, so hapefully, if it needs a roll cage, hopefully it could be less intrusive on the cargo space. Maybe the need for a different roll cage is why the cargo kit isn't linked in as an option at the moment?

Yeah, since the cargo frame is not a safety cage (driver and passenger are in the cabs safety cage), they could probably remove those supports that hug the wheel wells and only have the connections at the cab and towards the tailgate.

This is from 4/20/26. I have sent a followup.
Hey David,

Thank you for contacting Slate! We're glad you asked, and we're definitely planning for some dog-friendly accessories for our Slate. Agreed, it sounds like the Cargo Kit would be the way to go, as it provides the topper without seats or a rollbar, but other than that it provides all the same capabilities as the SUV Kit.

Let me know if this helped answer your question or if there's any additional information we can help clarify.

Best,

Gianni
