Electric Windows Configuration.

Although the hand-crank windows base feature is what got my attention regarding Slate's simplicity, upon reflection I think I may actually want power windows. It depends on how the switches are configured. You see I'm becoming old & infirm & would rather not lean across to the manual crank on the passenger side to get extra ventilation on hot summer days. I can't tell from any images or descriptions I've seen. Does the kit include 2 switches on the driver's side?

doubt it. most likely it is a motor that attaches directly to the crank gear. They sell these on amazon.

You could certainly run a wire across the truck to control it from the center console, or driver armrest.

I am wondering if these will be plug and play, the doors are already wired and all you need to do is attach and plug them in. When I put power windows in my Canyon I had to remove the door panels and fish the wires through the door boot, then all the way over to the passenger side and fish the wires through that door boot too, a real PITA.
If I have to do that with the Slate I will just get that accessory added at purchase.

I'm wondering if they made the door trim panels easy to remove and replace. My guess is yes, they thought of that. Because you would think inexpensive power windows are going to be one of the most popular upgrades. I wouldn't be surprised if they're listed as standard next week. Not counting on it, but it would not surprise me.

I consider roll-up windows as almost part of Slate's brand. Tons of articles have made it a point that Slate is so basic, "it even has roll-up windows!"

I have never had a NEED for power windows but there are a few instances where power windows are convenient. My old Tacoma has crank windows and I get by with them just fine but I will consider the Slate power window upgrade, depending on price and diy maintenance.

I might actually start with crank windows and get the power windows separately if the install is straightforward. Keep the cranks as backup.

That is my plan.
I wonder though will the price be more installing them when you buy the truck or if you buy the kit and install it yourself.
At the factory you have to pay for the labor for the conversion since it is done after the truck is completed.
Same for any accessory you get.

It will be nice to find out about the "spare" parts as well; if you have the switches installed prior to delivery to you, will the crank parts be shipped to you as well? Will they keep the parts and "recycle" them back into the assembly line? Will you receive some sort of discount for not receiving the extra parts?

If you order power windows, I would almost guarantee they will ship you the truck with crank windows, and you will just make the conversion yourself. The single config allows them to be more efficient.
