Waiting (im)patiently about all I have control over.
And here's yet another trade show: Slate is currently listed as a "participating manufacturer" at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, which will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Nov. 4-7, 2025.Looks to me like the Slate has been exhibited at multiple industry trade shows to date:
- Advanced Clean Transportation Expo, Anaheim CA, April 2025
- NAFA Fleet Management Association 2025 Institute & Expo, Long Beach CA, April 2025
- Home Delivery World, Nashville TN, May 2025
There is obviously noting wrong with exhibiting at trade shows; Slate apparently expects fleet sales to be an important part of its business. However, it's frustrating that there have been zero opportunities for the general public to see the Slate, and that no events have even been firmly scheduled.
That's not that easy. They need people with certain skill sets. Hiring itself is a demanding process, ask HR in any large organisation. Some people have contracts which need to expire ("yep I can work for you 3 months from now"). People need relocation, because local talent is most likely not enough, that takes time as well. Even if you finally have a person, she needs to learn and adapt, and someone who is already with you needs to allocate time for onboarding new workers. And then will be people who are not a good fit for organisation and need to go. That's a very difficult process and in the short term makes organisation less effective, not more. I was a CEO of a very small organisation (15 people) and hiring was a huge headache. Setting up a factory from scratch is level of magnitude more difficultif they can’t fill positions…. Pay more.
Simple
There's also a big difference between showing it at a trade show and showing at a public event where there's 5 people, they can't tell you what it'll cost, and it doesn't drive.I'll just recycle a comment I made last month:

Maybe Slate feels that showing off their truck at a trade show is one thing -- and showing it off to the General Public is something else, and they aren't prepared for that yet. But I'd be happy if they just gave us the same access that trade show attendees get.
they have 70 working trucks (probably less after crash testing) as per their post they’ve built 70 to dateThere's also a big difference between showing it at a trade show and showing at a public event where there's 5 people, they can't tell you what it'll cost, and it doesn't drive.
Public events make a lot more sense when you have a working truck, price tag, and delivery date.
Sorry to inform you that Slate Auto will NOT be at the SEMA trade show. If you drill down the list of vendors, you are directed to a website called SlateBuilt.com >>>> NOT Slate Auto.I'll just recycle a comment I made last month:
