An extra cab is something I've been giving a lot of thought to lately. I don't typically haul many people around in my car but an extra cab would be nice during the once in a blue moon chance that I need to, without giving up much in the way of trunk space.

Y'all think they might put one out at some point? They already have the SUV kit so I can't imagine it'd be too much of a stretch.

The problem is not that it's too much of a stretch, but that it's not enough of a stretch.

Look at this crash simulation photo:

Notice how the bed buckles near the back of the cab in a frontal collision. It seems likely that the bed is included in the crumple zones in pickup form, and needs the full extended 'roll bar' setup to safely put people there.

It is never going to happen for this model. The bed side rail structure is integral to the frame.

A separate model in the future maybe.

A kit that moves the partition rearward 18" or thereabouts would provide room for a dog or two to ride behind the seats.

Bonus points if it has an openable pop-out window for sniffing purposes.

Can we take the Midgate off without adding the SUV kit or anything? I’m a cheap skate but might want an open air configuration.

Are saying extra storage space or a smaller back seat?

Don't see why not, unless they have some kind of "safety sensor", but they should be easy to bypass.

Just guessing, but if the SUV packages can be DIY, wouldn’t that indicate both rear window and midgate are removeable?
