I've seen recent truck photos from Slate that have hinges on the rear cabin window. Is that for regular trucks or part of other styles?

Edited to add a photo.

Since the rear panel moves to the back on the suv kit there is a good possibility it may open.

I asked them a couple of weeks ago and they said that they hadn't decided yet whether to make it openable in truck form. They show the same window on the back of the square SUV being opened in public showings, so it has the potential. I wonder how much effort it would take to DIY if Slate decides to not make it operable when on the truck cab.

Probably just need the hinges and the latch, the SUV has to have them. And somehow be unlockable from outside.

I would say the way its currently designed, no, the window won't open on the "Truck" version. The animation on Slate's website shows the back window assembly is (at least) two pieces; the upper piece that has the window in it, and the wall piece below it to separate the cab from the bed.

In one of the videos, the creator opens the window/gate. The window is inside the gate, and the gate pushes against the underlapping window piece, pressing it and holding it in place.

It looks to me the cab version is the same design, the wall piece dividing the cab from the bed presses against the bottom of the glass piece, which would prevent it from opening. At least organically. If there is a way to remove the "wall" portion and keep the "window" portion in place, then maybe. I would also anticipate 3rd party to facilitate this as well.

But the way it's currently designed, no, I don't think so.

Great observations!

I guess I'm a little bummed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just got back an answer to this, and in truck mode that window will not be openable. I also asked about the midgate being structural, ie. can you drive with the midgate out, and they said you can, but it does add rigidity so keep that in mind.
So I take that to mean that while you can't just pop open the rear window, you can take out the whole rear partition and have open air to the bed for longer stuff etc.

The rear window glass might be structural and attached with a strong adhesive. This saves weight and money. It's been around for many years.

The rear glass seems to just be hanging on a couple of hinges (clearly shown in the video above), I can see a third party crafting a frame with hinges on top, and a side-sliding glass structure inside that frame, which would still preserve the basic architecture.

I would hope it’s openable in Cargo kit variation.
