I just noticed in the 3D digital model used for Maker that the SUV topper has two separate lateral joints. One is where the topper meets the cab roof, the other is toward the rear at the end of the roof rack mounting rails. This has me wondering why that second joint is in the model. It doesn't appear to be needed structurally. Maybe its part of a plan to be able to replace that topper roof panel with something else...perhaps a frame that includes a folding 2CV-like (or Scout-like cabana) top. In which case the topper actually comes in six pieces: two sides, two upper rails (that include the roof rack rails), and two roof panels. Just spit-balling here...The SUV/Cargo topper ships flat which means the top panel and sides are independent parts. I doubt there will be an alternative roof for the cab, but an alternative roof (top panel) for the topper could be interesting. Why not have an option that is partially fabric and folds back? While you’re at it, why not make it a tent that you can climb into from the bed…kind of like what Alu-Cab developed for the Toyota Troopy.
The removeable rear roof is shown here in this here video @ 15:15In vids the top of the SUV has a removable panel. I doubt the cab will as it’s needed for rigidity, but the rear seat passengers can go topless 😉
In a perfect world, seeing as they are only one color, I could see the sunroof company getting a bunch of roof panels, doing the mods on them themselves, and then selling the whole plastic top piece for a 'DIY swap job.' Just have a core charge for an entire roof panel LOLA sunroof or removable panel could be installed. The metal frame structure is open above the cab. A third-party sunroof manufacturer already posted on here that they’re in contact with Slate and are planning to offer such.

Installing a sunroof requires cutting both the roof panel and the headliner. Core swap of just the roof panel (likely bonded to the frame) would not include the headliner. Aftermarket sunroofs are available professionally installed at local vehicle customizing shops nationwide. In a perfect world, seeing as they are only one color, I could see the sunroof company getting a bunch of roof panels, doing the mods on them themselves, and then selling the whole plastic top piece for a 'DIY swap job.' You have a good eye! It certainly does look like a removable panel from the inside. This may or may not become an optional or standard feature for rear SUV panels. Has anyone seen any official statements about such a feature? In vids the top of the SUV has a removable panel.
