Nope. Slate did a YouTube short on this:
In that video it appears that the driver already had his foot on the brake.

On my wife's Tucson if you push the start button (with the fob on you) the car goes into accessory mode. If you push the start button with your foot on the brake the car starts. I wonder if the Slate isn't the same, only you insert the fob. EVs don't spin a starter motor so that's left out.

One of the videos shows the key pushes into the dash to the right of the steering column
Yup, in that video he inserted the fob, and then had to push it to start. Dunno if you can then remove it, or it has to stay in place while running.

I can be way wrong on that. Just remembering what I saw in one test drive video.

So when you lose the first key fob and finally try to use the second one safely tucked away somewhere, chances are it won't work. The battery will fail. At least that's how it's been every time I tried to use my second key fob.

If we do get the second key fob (highly likely), it might be a good idea to remove the battery as it will inevitably drain down. Or keep extra button batteries on hand, e.g. 2016, 2025, 2032.
With my Honda if the fob battery dies you can still start the car by placing the fob next to the start button when you turn the car on. I think most push to start cars have something similar. To unlock the car there is usually another fob read location on the door or a physical key slot either exposed or hidden under a cover (and a hidden key in your fob).

It looks like the Slate fob might have just that; a hidden key. At least this reviewer thinks so, where you push that catch and the bottom half slides out as a key. It could also be the battery what do I know lol

The replacement fob in the maker says it has a key blank inside. what you do with it is between you and your locksmith.

Yeah that looks like a similar key release location as on my Honda.

It also allows you to lock valuables in the glovebox, take the key part with you, and give the fob part to a valet. I think I saw a lockable dash panel upgrade in the maker. They probably intend a similar use case with that.

by the way you will be able to buy more fobs in the accessory catalog or when you order your truck.
Last couple of cars I bought came with two keys. I wonder if slate is only going to include one key and additional keys have to be purchased separately.

I would imagine that there is a cut key in there since the door handles have a keyed lock on them. Right???

I also anticipated some folks will ask to see this. So here is the 0.1 ms frame from the video displaying all the warning lights!

That’s a pretty sorry GOM (Guess O Meter) efficiency number: 47/16.38=2.869 mi per KWH. At that rate the total range is is only going to be 63x2.87=180.81. and that’s at full battery utilization. 🤔

That's probably the old "Standard Range" battery if I had to guess. That was only for 150 miles so if they got that efficiency it might be due to regen?
