And also if it is the fob that also sends a signal to the truck how reliable is that I’d prefer if the fob location had some pins or something to soft wire it in with a physical connection
Pins are less reliable, they can get bent, or dirty and stop making contact from vibration. No thanks
My Equinox uses the proximity key, hasn’t failed me one time in 2 years.

According to Slates’s own video they put out you have to insert the key fob in the slot beside the steering wheel. I think it is probably a passive proximity key like a RFID chip on your credit cards, easy and cheap to make. I doubt it will be able to read the fob from your pocket.

by the way you will be able to buy more fobs in the accessory catalog or when you order your truck.

Once you insert the key fob into the slot and press the brake pedal, the Slate will turn on.
Here is a brief video of the display upon startup.

I also anticipated some folks will ask to see this. So here is the 0.1 ms frame from the video displaying all the warning lights!

I like the lower left indicator warning that you're being chased by snakes, and the one next to it letting you know you're in the clear.

I was hoping it works like our Teslas have worked for 11 years: with your key fob or phone on you somewhere (pocket, purse, etc) you get in, sit down, put your foot on the brake, put it in Drive, and go. No getting any thing out and no buttons to push.

The Bluetooth and UWB radios to allow that cost money so I get they may not include it. But maybe you get some of this if you buy the Telematics module?

Always good to have at least two.
Yes, I just want to know if I need to order another fob. Only having one fob won't do it for me. One to use and one to lose.
So when you lose the first key fob and finally try to use the second one safely tucked away somewhere, chances are it won't work. The battery will fail. At least that's how it's been every time I tried to use my second key fob.

If we do get the second key fob (highly likely), it might be a good idea to remove the battery as it will inevitably drain down. Or keep extra button batteries on hand, e.g. 2016, 2025, 2032.

Never in my life has that happened.

Nope. Slate did a YouTube short on this:

I appreciate that there's a quick way to cycle the power, unlike on a lot of modern EVs. They took away the power buttons at the same time they introduced glitchy systems that need to be power cycled, and I don't get why journalists keep thinking that's a good thing.

In Slate Truck vs. Extreme Cold I noticed that when they inserted the keyfob I can squint the text on the dash as being Test mode key detected...
