Personally I’m very hopeful that a number of day 1 reservations are held by those insistent on AWD, bench seat, 5k towing, full featured radio and audio, etc and they accept reality and drop out, improving my day 2 position. Thank you.

Dang it, David. Why did you have to remind of the things that I *really* want: " AWD, bench seat, 5k towing"? I'm week 1 reservation, but not Day 2, so I'm not in your way, regardless. (geography might be?)

[My buddy used Claude AI to describe the use case of what I desired and it completely ignored Slate. It suggested that I get a hybrid truck (Maverick) or to consider getting a Rav4 PHEV and pull a small trailer!]

i heard, wisdom comes with age - I’m still waiting.

i suspect for many the Slate may only be a 95% solution. How to fill that gap might take some serious thought, maybe that bench seat is a mod, that seldom needed AWD or towing is a shortterm rental. Solutions either exist or will.

Do we have any idea how difficult the rear seat will be to remove? That might be a game changer in some scenarios when one needs some truck utility but mostly needs abilities to transport 3 humans?

No shame! You're not weak, you have a different commute and a different exercise history.

National Bike To Work Day is next week Friday the 15th:

https://bikeleague.org/events/bike-month/dates-events/

Try it!
Wish that was viable in my area, 7ish miles for my shortest commute is a bit long and weather usually wouldn't work out, but even worse is no bike lanes at all, and most of my route has lanes only big enough to fit a car and very soft shoulders.

Probably 4 bolts like the old jeeps
In my mind, I’m also thinking 4-8 bolts and the bed floor cover. If that’s a 10 minute affair, could make this a lot more handy (I would keep the rear cover on).
