That is a reasonable assumption. Apparently Slate has enough reservations for year one deliveries, even if a large percentage do not convert into orders. This, along with inevitable delays in production, supply chain, etc. puts you squarely in year 2+

Welcome aboard.

One thing to keep in mind is that some will not be happy with their Slates. So some number of Slates will arrive on the used car market in just a few months.

It's just a question of what the used price and the used volume will be. No clue here.

IF the truck comes out and does what they say I gotta think this will be one of the slowest to hit used status of any vehicles out there.

That really depends on production speed. Being first in line means less if they are popping these out like rats in a New York sewer!
And hella more if there are the INEVITABLE PRODUCTION DELAYS........... ;) This is a NEW Company. Not a new model from an existing maker with a functioning factory. There is SOOOOO much yet to come\..... how about training the production workers? Do you realize how many months of SLOOOOOW production at first as they iron out the kinks? Supplier problems WILL occur. Rivian built 42,000ish vehicles in 2025. Fourth year of production..... Vastly more complicated vehicles in many ways, so not an apples to apples. But gotta think no way in hell do they produce 50,000 truckes next year. If that's the case, it could be 3 years just to get through the orders already taken. If it's 25,000....... as I'd expect to be closer, it could be 5 years to get through the list.
Hopefully the simplicity of design factors into reduced line problems reduced and vastly easier production and reaching peak capacity sooner. As one would think it should. But still lots of other factors. I didn't reserve till Dec 25 and I'm hoping for 2028 delivery.

I’ve always wondered if you really existed Joe! I’ve used your name alot when I was a kid in Indiana! šŸ˜‚

Good points. I šŸ¤” that this EV build is so simple that production is much more streamlined and simplified than what my generation was used to at Cummins Engine company in 70’s-80’s.

I wonder what the falloff rate of reservations to actual orders completed typically is for situations like this? 30%? 50%? 80%? ... If say, only 30% of 160,000 reservations actually make an order, that is only 48,000. Maybe 10k produced first year of production? Then 50k the next (I'm just guessing here, and I have zero expertise in the industry), yeah, you're probably looking at 2+ years.

I can't wait for my Slate. Been shouting Slate's praises from the mountain tops since i slapped my $50 on the table day one. Here's another angle. If demand outpaces production there's an opportunity for someone out there to flip their Slate for a tidy profit. Of course it's a budget vehicle so I don't know how high a price someone would be willing to pay to get their hands on a Slate sooner. NOT saying I would be the person flipping Slates. But who knows? Is Slate the next "must have" ?!

And I’ll a number of folks with early reservation that will buy in hopes of flipping for a profit.

Slate has no obligation to deliver product by order date. It is in their interest to deliver product in areas with support infrastructure. Even I was was in the first 100 to order a Slate I doubt I will see mine early in production as I live in northern New Mexico.

I think you may mean Reservation date.
But I also hope you are wrong. example: I live Hawaii, who knows when they might ship here. I am willing to take delivery in CA and pay for further transport. By your reasoning, as we don’t have a RepairPal, I will never get a Slate, at least until we do, which is likely doubtful. I can buy any other brand vehicle on the Mainland, ship it here and no one cares where I get support.
