Ah, I was thinking of battery preconditioning for optimal DCFC speeds. That aspect of it seems pretty doable

I think of preconditioning as something you need on cold mornings / hot afternoons when the battery and cab are cold / hot.

If I understand correctly, the battery needs to be (or, at minimum, should be) warmed / cooled prior to departure.

Fifteen minutes before you leave, hit the preconditioning button on the remote.

If you're going somewhere you need to park for a while, set the truck to hold the battery at operating temperature so it's kept at operating temperature and ready to drive.

Going to work? Schedule preconditioning to happen before quitting time.
sounds fancy

Preconditioning? Clueless.
as our temp swing is usually about 65° - 80° perhaps I can remain clueless.

tech to make the car safer, make the battery last longer, want it but dont need it.
battery conditioning, keeping charge between 20-80%, backup camera, antilock brakes ok.

tech for convenience/comfort for me, dont want it dont need it.
radio, infotainment, power everything (seats, windows), heated/cooled seats - app to run car, remote start, keyless fob, apps for anything

tech to create additional value - want it but dont need it.
120v power port, power behind rearview mirror for dashcam, use car to power house, nice to haves but dont want them if it puts getting to production at risk.
----
I really dont need any tech at all.

Good lists. You just reminded me of one luxury on this LIghtning that I do enjoy though....heated/ventilated seats! (Power hogs for sure).

Preconditioning people are usually talking about with newer cars, is open the app on your phone before you go outside in the freezing or 100 degree weather, and start the heater/AC. Range unlimited usually, because the car is on cellular network.
I don't see how that would work if the only connection the truck has is through the phone, unless you leave the phone plugged into the truck.

The predecessor was called Remote Start.

Press a button on the remote and the car starts.

Remote Start predates smartphones, much less Connected Vehicles.

Remote start - a driver convenience, make the car comfortable - yea I can see where that would be frowned on

Precondition - adapt the car environment for benefit of the car, more climate friendly - yea I can see where that would be preferable.

If only the tech on remotes worked at any sort of range, or through any wall thicker than balsa wood :(

^This, my friend had remote start on his '99 Plymouth Neon. It can definitely be done with just a keyfob.

The Slate also has physical HVAC knobs, so whatever the Slate 'preconditions' the cabin to is probably going to be whatever you have your HVAC set to. Unless those knobs are just spinning potentiometers attached to a digital HVAC controller.

One big thing about preconditioning the cabin is it can help your range if you live in an extreme climate.
I live in Texas, and it is regularly over 100, and much hotter inside the car sitting in the sun. If I can precondition while the car is still plugged in, that's energy the battery doesn't have to put out.
This is even more true in cold weather.
It being nice in the car when I get out there is just a nice byproduct.
Judging by the keyfob, "remote start" is already planned. https://www.slateforums.com/forum/threads/key-fob-customizations-colors-and-screwdriver.12687/

Seems like it would do that regardless.

Get in and go. I’m planning on using my iPhone for music via a pill, navigation and such. Maybe the slate app for vehicles info. This will be my first ev.
