Warsaw, Indiana is a town that knows how to build stuff right. On the campus of a former printing plant, we’re building a home base for Slate production. Take a look inside with Don Stoneburner, an engineer who spent decades keeping the plant running and is helping write its next chapter.

This is one of the reasons I’ve put my $50 down for a Slate. Not just because since the beginning of electric cars I’ve thought there ought to be a simple affordable EV, and not just because I’m a minimalist at heart, but also because I grew up in Detroit and have always had a soft spot in my heart for honest work, a good Midwest work ethic and American made goods…so I really wish the best for Slate, for Warsaw IN and all the workers who will make it happen! 👍❤🙏🏼🛻

Yeah, I would absolutely love to pick it up from the plant, visit some friends I have there, and make a roadtrip out of it. I hope they continue to tell the stories of the people bringing this to life.

I kind of like the idea of Slate eventually having low cost regional delivery sites. Or maybe partnering with some dealership chain for delivery. It's nice to have the paperwork and any financing handled by people who can tranfser plates, process a trade, etc.

A trade is one thing that I'm curious about. I know some other direct sales OEMs like Tesla will take a trade. It's important, because most states have tax incentives for trading (exempting the traded value from state sales taxes).

I think I am coming full circle! As a book designer and production person I am pretty sure I printed stuff at RR Donnelley in the 70's. So lets get this job on line! I need my truck! Let's not worry about if the paper is at room temperature let;s load and roll!

I’ve thought that an auto detailer in town I’ve used would be a perfect Slate depot. He’s doing wraps and accessory installs now and has tons of space. Totally separate from the dealership world so he’s not always “upselling “. Does great work.
I‘m afraid that adding trade ins would start the shark tank nature of the auto business so that’s an issue.
