Hi, I wanted to say hi and do a quick introduction. Retired guy here, living in northeast Wisconsin. I feel like the Slate Truck was designed with me in mind. I think I pondered the idea for all of two minutes before putting in a preorder.
  • I've been a "maker" all my life. Building and customizing things is what I live for.
  • I have 3D printers and design experience.
  • I have designed and wrapped cars, trucks, and boats.
  • I've driven 2-door 2-passenger vehicles for the last 23 years.
  • I'm ready to get rid of a 2001 Ford Ranger that is a second vehicle but needs to go because it has become so unreliable. I do love my 2015 Honda CR-Z, but it's getting harder to get into every day now that I'm almost 70.
  • We are ready to switch our cars to all electric vehicles.

My wife and I have each owned a regular cab, 4 cylinder, manual transmission, small pickup with crank windows and analog HVAC controls so rare these days. We’re retired and our snow, ice, and road tripping car is a Subaru so the Slate’s RWD-only and 200 mile range aren’t a problem. We plan to observe others experience here for about a year before any final decision.

Same line of thought for me, also retired. But I've decided to live on the edge a little and take a chance, although I admit I'll watch the first quarter roll outs to look for any complete disasters before my Q2 delivery. This is why we had another thread which expressed to Slate: "You have ONE chance." So true. If they blow the initial roll out, it is over.

Chevy 1500 4x4 std cab with 8ft box, work truck trim
Please introduce yourselves and give others a warm welcome as they join the Slate Forums community! đź‘‹

Please feel free to share your vehicle history and how the upcoming Slate pickup will fit into your life / vehicle story. 👍
Retired. Current vehicle is a Chevy 1500 4x4. Std cab, 8ft box, work truck trim. Almost as basic as a Slate. Do have a built in FM radio and power windows, mirrors. Not into all the "stuff" loaded into today's vehicles. From my first new car ('84 Saab 900) to my current vehicle. All base trims. Less "stuff" to maintain, repair, and sit unused. Usually less insurance.

Living in rural America along the shores of Lake Superior. Lake effect snow country. 4X4 with ground clearance and a real set of winter ice and snow tires makes life nice. The Slate spec as of today. Might not be able to deal with some of our snowy days, weeks. Prior to retirement had a commuter car. Front wheel drive with ice and snow winter tires. Snow depth, pitch of the roadway sometimes was an issue. Assuming the weight distribution of the Slate will enhance the rear only drive traction.

I’m seeing a lot of new members here who are reading and reacting to old threads from a year ago. Meaning they are researching answers to basic questions without creating a new thread. Very interesting to see, and keep up the good work!

Pair of 2015 Subaru Foresters, 1 is a XT
Hello. I'm a mechanic for Subaru and deal with tech issues all day long. It's going to be nice to own something with almost no tech in it and bare bones. Hopefully spark that creative juice for customization again as well! Never had interest of owning EV or a pick up....but here I am!

But, but, you will miss doing timing belts, head gaskets, CVT (and hopefully) wheel bearing jobs!

and CVT Valve Bodys(Bad solenoids)....and radio updates or replacements...And for you newer Subaru owners...Thermo Control Valves! Which have since been discontinued already on the newest models. I'll miss it all...lol

Better get EV certified, Solterra, Trail Seeker and Uncharted.

Welcome! We wouldn’t have pre-ordered a 205 mile RWD Slate without our 480 mile AWD Forester remaining primary, especially for snow/ice and road tripping.

Subaru Certified as of 3 years ago for the Solterra. 1 of 2 Techs in our shop who can touch an EV. Including a federally funded EV Boot camp 2 day course at the local Community College....where i first heard of some EV coming out called Slate...
