Hi,

I joined to learn more about what might become my 2nd EV and converse with other aspiring Slate owners.

I currently own a 2023 M3P.

Other vehicles currently owned in chronological order (all purchased new; all but Tesla special orders).

1978 Trans Am WS6 (or "Ma Snart" according to my Tesla dash cam when parked next to it)
1997 Pontiac Formula (now a long retired track car; have no idea why I still have it)
2016 Ford Mustang GT PP

Welcome! I see you also note having a GMC Syclone, that's such an amazing truck! do you still have it? Wonder if some motorheads(ev though) will try crank up the power on the Slate to get that 0-60 down to Syclone times.

I included the Sycone in the list of vehicles at first then edited it out because its in the process of being sold. Missed that one reference about it not being special order. Fixed that later.

It was fun but not at all practical. The inside of the tailgate has a sticker warning that cargo load can not exceed 500 lbs. That includes: driver, passenger, gas in the tank, whatever is in the console, glove box, behind the seats. I had a 300+ lb acquaintance, I couldn't even take to lunch without violating the warranty.

Still cool though! My dad had a 1989 S10 with the regular 4.3, 2WD, that thing would light up the tires fairly easy without trying.

Hi All!

Slate may be my first EV purchase if the stars align. Was looking at a Ford Lightning, but after some of the negative stories I hear about having to order through a dealership and not factory direct, led me here to Slate. A couple things I am looking forward to those June prices just like everyone else and the simplicity of it all. I am really interested if they will make a 4X4 or AWD version as well. Cheers- KT

I'm hoping the Slate pickup will be my first new EV purchase. It would replace the 2004 Tacoma single cab 2wd pickup that I purchased new, and which is now up to 73k miles.

I have done a couple of home brew EV conversions long before EVs were available new. I saw my first EV conversion as a kid, a coworker of my Dad would pick him up as they commuted to work together during the second gas crisis in the '70's. That thought never left my mind, but got put on hold to grow up, get married, and start a family. In the late 1990's, I decided to look up EVs . I found out there was a thriving home-built EV community in the Seattle to Portland area.

I did an EV conversion on a VW Bug and later a VW Rabbit Pickup. Lead acid batteries don't make for good range, but I did own the Bug long enough to reconvert it to Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. It kept my interest peaked...

I like basic vehicles. I've driven many on an old air cooled Bug. I purchased my Tacoma with the minimal options. The Slate may be the last new vehicle with hand crank windows! (My Tacoma has them too.) I am looking forward to buying a small new truck at a budget friendly price, and replace my Tacoma with a (similar size) Slate.

Hi all! I hopped in the bed of this truck in July of last year. I can't wait for mine to show up. I love the customization possibilities, and I can't wait to see what the aftermarket comes up with once they hit the road.

My Slate will replace my 93 Ranger, but I do love to drive a stick, so the Ranger will probably not be sold. One thing I hope they develop is, like the Ranger, a Club cab. I don't want a 4 door monstrosity, just add 12 to 18 inches to the cab so I can recline a bit, and perhaps put groceries in the cab.

My Slate will replace my 2004 Tacoma. I've enjoyed it for 73k miles since buying it new, but it's old now and others can better enjoy a clean original first gen Taco. I'll miss the 5-speed, but I have driven other EVs and they don't need shifting. It is interesting to feel the how an electric motor's torque/power curve fits the needs of a car better than a gasoline engine (starting with the ability to take off from zero rpm with good torque).

I was the DISBO on the USS Stump (DD-978) and then did a SUPPO Dept Head tour on USS Peterson (DD-969). After that I finished up at various shore tours. I wish I had gotten another sea tour, but since destroyer Supply Officer tours max out at Lieutenant, I would have ended up on a big deck of some sort. A cruiser Dept Head tour as a LCDR would have been nice, but those jobs were few and far between as those ships started to be phased out.
