I wonder what happens when you change tire diameter. Will the app have a setting for that?

If so, setting a smaller-than-actual diameter would raise the top speed.

...at least that's how it works on ebikes.

About 99.99% certain my Slate will never see 90 mph. My Tundra hasn’t, wife’s Ascent hasn’t.
I had an Ascent and that thing drove so smoothly I had to set cruise control so I wouldn’t speed. I caught myself at 90+ a few times.

I think you meant to say LARGER diameter. A smaller diameter will show you going faster when you're not.

Y'all drive faster than 55??! šŸ˜‚
Yeah not me. I will begrudgingly bring the needle up to 60 on a 65, or up to 65 on a faster road, out of courtesy. But really I do not understand the desire to go 90+ on ANY road.

I have to wonder if habitual speeders actually do the math to see how many seconds they are saving. At highway speeds, I bet it's less than most people think. As your speed increases linearly, time saved increases marginally while death risk increases exponentially.

Yes sad most EVs selling points are still rated at 55MPH when it’s has been 65-80MPH for decades.
Sad? That's simple physics. If you want more range, drive slower.

I don't know what "it's has been" but 55 mph is the standard road speed limit basically everywhere.

Worth a watch:
I had kind of figured out this concept while I was learning how to estimate my bicycle speed without a speedometer.

This video is a great illustration. Actually makes me want to try to build a real seconds-per-mile speedometer.

My smart is limited to 90. Plenty fast.
I 've been at 80 in a Smart two door and felt a terror I've never experienced before. Maybe that one was in need of a few repairs, or maybe that's just how it is.

I like having the time to notice more things, too, in addition to having more time to react. I do stay in the slow lane and/or pull over to let folks pass. Besides, my Slate is going to look so cool I have an obligation to give gawkers extra time to drool šŸ˜‚

Smaller.

For example, telling the computer your tire has 1% less circumference than the physical tire has causes the car to go 1% farther (faster) than indicated.

Some AI Slop:

Having bigger tires than your car's computer is set for can lead to inaccurate speedometer readings, which may show a lower speed than you're actually traveling

So when your speedo says 90 you'll being going faster than 90 if you set a smaller-than-actual tire size in the app.

As someone who tends to end up running late for things, I have learned that hurried driving rarely moves the arrival estimate by a meaningful amount. There's very little room for improvement, especially compared to saving time at some part of your schedule before you're on the road.

Yeah, I'd better write that down...

TBH, back before we moved to Hawaii, we had a MB 500s LB. On the interstate that would be doing 90 before I realized. Didn’t help the gas milage.

Well, I would need to leave NY before I attempt 90 mph. I’ll just take their word on that. The state speed limit is 55 around here, so it’s considered reckless driving, and with all the speed cameras I will likely get caught. With a suspended license, how will I drive my Slate?
